Unbeatable!

(4 out of 5) by Mr. E. J. Ross on Dec 1, 2004 (Northern England)
This is a hard package to fault - setup takes 5 minutes and your tv is set up! The remote control is very easy to navigate with clearly labeled buttons and it's all very easy to pick everything up. The TV takes up a very small footprint but provides a decent sized picture given it only has a small screen (it's not a flat screen, but is getting there) Both TV and DVD can be viewed in 4:3 or 16:9 and even the speakers are more than adequate for movie viewing. The only minor concerns are that selecting channels is a bit slow (takes a while to change channel once you press a number, but using the program up/down button is quicker). I bought a new booster ariel as the one supplied didn't get quite so good a picture for me (this is because i live in a bad reception area) but with that one, the picture is excellent. Unbeatable for the price, and now Philps are shipping this with a film you will want to watch. Even the themed box the tv comes in is fun, especially to kids. I would recommend the combo for anyone, but particulary as a TV for a kid's room (small size, Shrek DVD, etc !) hope this has helped!

DVD issues aftwe 12 months

(1 out of 5) by Ian on Feb 11, 2006 (UK)
This is a great unit but there are big issues with the DVD player. Mine stopped working after 14 months. Philips agreed to repair it for free. They had three goes at it. Each time there was an issue with the new DVD unit. Finally I gave up after 3 monyhs. The repairer said he had seen a lot of Philips portable DVD failures over the last year. Also check out the Amazon reviews for the 15 inch version. A great shame Philips are using substandard DVD players in such a nice unit.

Before purshasing make sure you're in a strong reception area and the TV location is free from obstruction, if you are going to use the internal ring aerial. I found that the TV tuner is weak in comparison to the older Sony portable this was intended to replace (same position, even swapped aerials), so much so that I will have to run a cable from a loft aerial. However when run from a good aerial the picture quality is excellent as is the DVD playback. Has played back all DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW I have recorded. Good value for money.

Versatility and Value in one

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jul 4, 2004
Brilliant TV/DVD player for the bedroom or kitchen. Not very space consuming with no need for room for DVD peripheral or seperate remote controller. Sound is amazing at the price with tight rumbling Rammstein lows and shrill Japanese horror movie highs. Suitable for any high value cinema experience seeking buyer. Highly recommended.
