My search ended here at Amazon. The price was incredible for all that it had to offer and the sound is far above anything else I ever experienced with my old walkman. Even with the volume cranked as high as it would go, there was no distortion what-so-ever.
However, although the Sony D-NE511 Blue ATRAC/MP3 CD Walkman offers a great quality of sound, thats not all. It is also an ATRAC and an MP3 player. We all know what MP3 is, but what is ATRAC is you ask? ATRAC allows you to burn all of your favourite CDs onto one album by using computer software that comes with the walkman. In fact it allows you to put up to 30 CD on to one. That is like having 500 songs on the one album. No more will you need to carry around hundreds of CD's because you're not sure what you wish to listen to. You can carry one around inside the walkman and you'll be fine all day. Although you may also ask: won't it be annoying cycling through all those songs looking for what I want? Well with the Jog Dial you are able to skip through songs and even albums just by turning the dial, it is that easy. You can also bookmark your favourite songs so that you can listen to them instead of the ones that yo don't want to. And with up to 80 hours of battery life, you don't need to even carry spare batteries around with you.
Plus for all those who wish to be active with their discman, the Sony D-NE511 Blue ATRAC/MP3 CD Walkman has a G-Protection system that allows you to run and ride and whatever else you need to do in the day without the risk of listening to a CD going backwards and forwards.
I recommend the Sony D-NE511 Blue ATRAC/MP3 CD Walkman for anyone on the search for a great deal and a fantastic piece of entertainment equipment.
The Cool Blue Walkman
What they don't tell you
There are some areas where the description does not say it all.
1 It will play any any MP3 file - not just those created with the supplied software.
2 The supplied software is in my opinion very poor. It works well enough but on a W2k or XP machine it will ONLY work when logged on as administrator, you also need to be on line in order to get the CD titles. For security I do not go on line as administrator. So use the excellent free CDEX + Nero or whatever rather than the supplied software.
3 When you turn off the player it remembers where you got to and when you turn it on again it continues playing from that point.
When a disc is first put in it can take up to a 60s to search through the tracks.
4 There is no seperate line out - but the headphone output is high quality.
5 The battery access is internal, under the place where the CD goes so you have to take out the CD to change batteries - not a job you need to do often.
Overall an excellent player - good sound, large range of features, excellent compatibility. Supurb jog resistance - the CD is only accessed for a few seconds at the start of each track.
The supplied software is a let down but there are free alternatives.
