Excellent camera but be prepared to wait

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Sep 30, 2003
This is an excellent camera. There is nothing else to compete in the class at close to this pricepoint.

However, do not expect to receive this camera any time soon. This camera is in very short supply through all suppliers. I have had an active order for this camera through Amazon since 12 August 2003. The latest estimated dispatch date is now mid-October, for my order placed two months before this. The "Usually dispatched within 1 to 2 weeks" is misleading at the moment: this is not a usual situation. The delays are with Olympus supplying product, but be prepared to be patient...

Impressive piece of gear I'm sure, but amazon.co.uk is a jok

(1 out of 5) by Dr. Oliver Whyte on Sep 30, 2003 (Ireland)
I ordered my Olympus C750 at the end of August and every 2 weeks since then I have been shunted 2 weeks further forward - current estimated date of delivery: November 12th.
But at least they did send the 64Mb xD card, which without the camera is very useful for extinguishing cigarette butts - if only I smoked.
If I ever do get the camera, it does look very impressive.
But at the moment I am absolutely raging with amazon.co.uk

Digital comes of age...

(5 out of 5) by Mr. J. Young on Aug 24, 2003
Being a keen amateur photographer, and owning a canon eos SLR, I took the plunge last year and purchased an olympus c-220 zoom.
This was my first digital camera, and provided some excellent shots, however, it was limited by being a "compact" with a small lens and limited zoom capability. The true value of digital cameras is dispensing with the cost of film (etc) - we all know where this will go!
Essentially, then, I was looking to upgrade, but, being used to an SLR, and not having the money for a digital SLR, decided to opt for the C750. The camera is as close as you will get to a digital SLR, in my opinion.
GOOD POINTS:
Fantastic zoom
MUCH faster picture taking (time shift)
autofocus is VERY good
anyone who has used an olympus digicam will easily navigate most of the menus - same system
the light sensitivity is excellent: (I am still testing under different conditions)

DRAWBACKS
A maximum quality image fills the card: ie only room for one image at that size: writing time is about 10 secs
(Therefore as said before, a large capacity card is needed to get the most from this camera)
Finally, the ergonomics of the camera mean, although it fits in a jacket pocket, it may be an idea to get a secure carry case - it's too risky in terms of lens damage.

Overall, for the price, the camera is fantastic, and I would recommend it to anyone. Unless you are considering basement price digital, I would say spend a little more and get this -you won't regret it.

Olympus-C750uz- look No Further!

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Aug 23, 2003
I've been researching for months on what digital camera to go for. I looked at all the cameras on the market (brand new and older), I considered all the factors that were most important to me.

A price bracket under £500, best optical zoom, pixels per £, memory type, battery type, extra features, size and weight, camera body, build quality, reputation of manufacturer, and how it looked and felt to handle.

After much hair pulling and deliberation I whittled the choice down to 2 cameras. The Olympus C750uz or the Cannon IXUS 400.
Both are excellent cameras but have different characteristics.

The IXUS 400's main advantage is that it small enough to fit in a shirt pocket. It takes cracking pictures, looks good, feels good, lithium battery. X3 optical lense, 4 million pixels, compact flash. good build, all common features in the newer cameras. the web reviews are 5 starrs.

The Olympus C750UZ's main big advantage is a whopping 38mm to 380mm 10x optical zoom,4x digital,(40X Total) anything bigger you have to go into digital SLR (£1000). It brings far distant objects right up close and captures them at 4 million pixels without any loss in quality that a digital zoom gives. It looks good, feels good. Has the new Xd memory (faster read & write times and smaller). Takes rechargable batteries, has a hot shoe for an external flash. In my opinion there is presently no other camera as versatile on the market that comes close for under £500. LOOK NO FURTHER!!

Excellent Camera with an out of this world zoom lense

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Aug 18, 2003
A colleague let me borrow the Olympus C-750 for the weekend as I was wanting to take pictures at a football match. I was not let down.
This camera boasts a 10x Optical Zoom. This really has to be seen to be believed. Coupled with a 4x Digital Zoom this makes for a 40x Zoom in total.
This camera was ideal for my purpose as it boasts an ISO of up to 400, which means that shots in low light and action shots come turn out to be very sharp. I was impressed with the TFT screen as well, it is larger than most I have seen, and it is very good even in direct sunlight. Without having the manual to hand some of the modes and settings took a bit of working out, but I'm sure if I'd had a chance to read the manual these would become a lot clearer. The camera itself has a metal body. Many new camera's have plastic body's to reduce weight and production costs, but the C-750 despite the enormous zoom lens is surprisingly light and is small enough to fit into a coat pocket. I used the camera for one day, and that has convinced me to buy it, the main selling point being the amazing zoom lense.
