IT'S WORTH IT! Value [functionality and quality] for money.

(5 out of 5) by Nuno Morais on Mar 27, 2004
This camera is easy to use, the menus are clear and the 10x zoom really makes a difference. I really looked into the wide spectrum of choices before buying a camera. I had a small digital camera, that could take low resolution photos and a good 35mm camera (Nikon F70, 28-80). I needed something more portable and with low maintenance costs (films=££) than the 35mm to take pictures of the kids and to take on holidays. I was prepared to loose quality but not as much I was loosing with my old digital camera.

The Olympus C-750UZ looked like a good option and now, that I have it for nearly a month, what I can say is:
+ IMAGE QUALITY is amazing. 4MP is (more than) enough for my purposes and I believe for most of the ones that don't want to go professional with Digital Cameras.
+ ZOOM is perfect. Olympus lens quality are present in this camera. Needless to say anything else.
+ BATTERIES. There are some discussions on Li-Ion batteries vs regular (AA) batteries. My arguments for AA batteries are: It's less expensive to buy a spare set, you've got batteries all the time, for less money, with little trouble (recharge overnight, they will be ready for next day if required) and portability to other devices. I never had a doubt here and this was a criteria of choice. Be sure you have another set though, you would not like to miss your best photos.
+ Good SHOOTING SPEED. Not as fast as a 35mm (never will be...), but faster than most the cameras I've seen, where you press the trigger and when it shoots, your image has gone. I've taken photos of my kids and I'm positively impressed... and they move fast!
+ SEMI PROFESSIONAL characteristics. Manual aperture and shutter allows a reasonably good degree of control, namely in night shots, where a tripod is essential and the remote included is VERY handy. The other good think is that you can repeat as many times you wish your photo, until you get it right... without extra cost! (Digital is really great)
- The single downside, I have to say, is the MEMORY CARD. It's too small for the camera that takes this kind of quality pictures (Averages 18 Pictures in high quality). Also xD cards are not so widely used and are a bit more expensive than, for example, compact flash cards. On the other hand, xD cards are smaller than average (or all?) in size and, unfortunately, standardization of memory cards seems to be distant, if not unreachable.

SIZE is also an important aspect when you buy a digital camera. The smaller the better. However, from the research I've made the conclusion is: either you loose functionality or increase the price. Although it can be squeezed into a pocket, this camera is not one of the smallest, BUT has functionality and the price is right. The choice is yours.

My conclusion was, at the time of buying, that this camera functionality and quality beats competition, IT'S VALUE FOR MONEY. It is not a pro camera (or I still don't know how to fully use it :) but is definitely more than enough for a demanding non professional user.

It has sure fulfilled my needs. On VERY special occasions, I still use my 35mm ... it gives me a feeling of closer relationship with the camera (going nostalgic?)

Great Digital Camera, but not flawless

(4 out of 5) by Jason Keane on Oct 28, 2003 (Ireland)
I deceided to take the digital plunge, after a bit of research I decided that the Olympus C-750UZ was the camera for me.
My first impressions of the camera were great, Excellent picture quality, excellent features, But after a bit of use a few limitations arose - Namely the Auto focus, under poor lighting conditions, it doesn't appear up to scratch, and the manual isn't much help either, in fact one wonder's why olympus bothered printing a manual at all. The manual does mention something about Manual Focus, but fails to mention how to activate it, and after hours of browsing the menus I still failed to find it.

Don't get me wrong this is a great camera, and for the price I doubt you'll get the features anywhere else, but that Auto Focus really (To me anyway) lets the otherwise great camera down.

I own three digital cameras and since retiring from full-time employment decided to buy yet another, but better. I searched the internet for several months reading reviews and talking to dealers, ending up with a choice of two, a Minolta Dimage and the Olympus C750 which I purchased from Amazon because the price was right, they had all the extras and could deliver within seven days.
I made the right choice and am pleased with my purchase, the camera is everthing the manufacturer says about it. There are one or two minor irritations when using the camera. From 'Standby' to ready is very slow and I have problems with the various buttons due to my arthritic thumbs, also it is essential to buy a tripod to support the camera when using maximum zoom. It is battery hungry, I keep two spare sets with me at all times, one set on charge in my car and one ready. The Camedia Software is First Class and so easy to use. The handbook which Olympus supply is clear and concise.
Everything taken into account the C750 is extremely good value for the meagre price.
I'm certain if you buy this camera, you will not be dissapointed.

Superb spec and quality

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jan 23, 2004
After owning many digital cameras from Nikon, Minolta and Canon it was time to upgrade.
I spent 5 months umming and arring over which one to buy to supplement/replace my aging 35mm camera system and eventually went for the Olympus c750.

Boy did I make a good choice.
Picture quality is excellant and the much hyped difficult menu system is a breeze. It's a matter of getting used to it.
Build quality is second to none.

My advice.

BUY IT!

So simple even I can use it !!

(5 out of 5) by Bert on Jun 26, 2004 (Somerset United Kingdom)
Purchased C750 about 6 months ago. It was recommended to me by some one who knows a bit about cameras.(" Can't go wrong with Olympus" ) At first I was a little daunted by all the menus and sub-menus but these are soon mastered. Can be used as a straight forward point and shoot camera or you can have fun and experiment with all the manual functions.
I have since bought a larger memory card ( recommend at least 128mb ) a tripod (essential for full zoom shots)and a spare set of batteries ( can be a little battery hungery )
The camera is a perfect size too, not one of these tiny, fiddley ones.
Over-all I would highly recommend this camera for it's quality of pictures, it's versitility and value for money and as the title says " so simple even I can use it !!
