Stunning picture quality

I've had this cam for a couple of months and the picture quality is stunning.
I've used it in sunlight where the colours are bright and vibrant and to film fireworks which are notoriously difficult and it did very well.
It looses some of its quality in low artificial light but the picture is still very watchable and not particularly grainy.
It is small and light and lasts ages with the biggest battery pack.
I compared it against the MX500 (about 50% more expensive) and to be honest the picture is better, especially in lower light. The 500 feels better built and you get zebra pattern and manual audio level but to be honest, given the difference in low light picture, I didn't hink it was worth the difference.

Great camera!

This camera produces excellent, semi-pro video quality. It is a noticable difference with 'normal' 1 CCD cameras. Nice digital effects, good manual control. Poor image quality when recording stills to SD card (digital photos) in comparison to 'real' digital still camera. Also, night shot is not as good as most Sony cameras.
Overall a great camera when not taking pictures (but hey, then don't use a camcorder as a camera, right?)

NV-GS70B A little marvel

(5 out of 5) by Jenny Day on Mar

Once I got over the shock of the tiny size, I was quite simply blown away by the features and quality crammed into this little marvel. I am a freelance VideoTape editor and, although camera work is not my main skill I am used to working with professional cameramen. So I am a fairly demanding user.
I love using this camera. It makes my rather amateur effors look good on screen, and even if not aimed at a pro user, it produces quality pictures which are easily good enough to use in low budget professional work. If you can afford it then by all means look at the Sony PD100's or the higher spec panasonic models - but if you want excellent results on a budget coupled with ultra-portability and excellent battery life then this one is for you. Highly reccomended

Ive had one a year and still find new features on it

The NV-GS70b comes packed with features to enhance your videos, not only its it the cheapest three chip camera around it comes packed with digital effects. I can its menus are easy to use so you can quickly change a setting. It also has a manual option were you can set your shutter speed, gain etc and the added feature of a manual focus ring means that you can get those smooth drawn out zooms. It also comes with a built in digital camera that can capture stills to a SD card at a quality that great for everyday use but for a pro would not compare to some of today's digital cameras. You can also capture MP4 movies and voice files to the SD card, it comes it a CD rom so you can edit and copy these files to your PC but once connected to your pc Via USB shows up as a removable drive and you can copy, paste and delete from there. This is a great camera for general use and is on the semi-pro level because its quality is as good as an Cannon XL-1, when cutting between the NV-GS70b and the XL-1 there is hardly any difference. Buy this camera and you will not be disappointed.
