Excellent :D

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on May 19, 2004
I bought this MD player about a month ago and i can't fault it really. Excellent battery life, good capacity on the disks. Fully re-chargable in a couple of hours.

Only niggle is the SonicStage software and the annoying check-out function that only lets you put a certain track onto 3 mini disks, then it's locked out. Luckily the newest version of sonicstage addresses this, or you can use the Real Player plugin that does the same job.

4stars!! only let down by the software which is fixable :D

This minidisc player is very sound. The sound quality is good, even on LP4. There were a few teething problems with installing the driver but its easy to figure out eventually. The software is easy to use and in 10 minutes I manged to fit 3 albums onto one minidisc (on LP2 mode). Its well worth paying for a bit extra for a minidisc player instead of a MP3 Player!

Great Hardware, shame about the software.

(4 out of 5) by Terence B Pritchard on May 13, 2003 (Barrow in Furness, Cumbria United Kingdom)
I have had this item now for just one week and think the hardware is the bees knees. However the really big let down is with the SonicStage software. It is one of the worst programmes I have ever come across. Please can we have an easier to read screen with better layout and colours. The instructions are appalling if you can find the right ones.

The hardware is the exact opposite and produces the goods as befits a Sony product, My only small fault with it is really me with my enormously big and clumsy mitts.

PLEASE Sony get better software fast.

Sony remains the leader in quality products

I bought this MD player in july because it was on sale at £70 in argos - and it is well worth the money.

The sound quality is excellent, and i recommend putting the songs on lp2 quality as you can put 160 mins of music on them - roughly 3 albums.
The main reason i got it was as a replacement for my sony mj360 cd player because it is so bulky. The sony MD fits nicely into your pocket, and the mini discs are almost indestructible.
Minor quibbles are the sonic stage software - i dont have a problem with its copy-right protection, but i once i converted my cd collection into ATRAC3 files, i couldn't find them anywhere - once you have used sonicstage and most of your music is on it you won't want to download and use the real player netMD plugin because you would have to re-encode all your cds into mp3 format...
But that is just minor, and it is a great value for money player, so buy it!

Excellent toy, software sucks

(4 out of 5) by Mr. David C. Stone on Apr 29, 2004 (UK)
Much like everyone else, I have to say that this is an excellent littlegadget. It is a little complex to use, and the manual requires yourcomplete attention... to put it another way; you won't find any "QuickStart" section!
The sonicstage software is not very intuitive, and even if it were itwould still be useless because it crashes when trying to convert certainMP3's, but not all. I have tried to find some difference between those itwill work with and those it will not, like some being mpg1 and some beingmpg2, but it makes no difference. It seems to be arbitrary!
However, you can use the plugin that comes with Real One player to do itand avoid all headaches. I would have given it five stars if the softwarewas good, because it's a great product at a great price.
