Pioneer DV454-S Silver Multi-region DVD Player

(4 out of 5) by Marc Dellasega on Nov 30, 2003
This DVD player is very good value for money i paid UKp120. I really love it. It plays everything EVERY REGION DVD,/DVD-R/DVD-RW/VCD/SVCD/CD/ CDR/CDRW/MP3s. Pioneer is also a reliable make. It looks very stylish, is light and slim. It has a good zoom and very easy to read manual. The remote is also vey easy to operate. The picture is crystal clear. Thank you for DVD it is so much better than VHS. It has excellent T.V surround sound if you don't have Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. The only shame is that it doesn't have DD 5.1 Decoder built in. But i have plugged it into my HI fi system through the Mini Disc input and therefore has two quality speakers and is more than adequate.

Fantastic, well almost!

This is the first DVD player I've ever brought and I have to say that it is highly impressive. I did extensive research into DVD players before buying one as I needed a player that was multi region, and that is compatable with DVD-R DVD+R SVCD, etc. This player has played everything so far and played it well. Despite the manual claiming that the player only supports DVD-R/W i have used DVD+R in and it ran like a charm.

Looks wise the player is excellent nothing that can be faulted really. I actually like the remote control, some claim it's to light and plasticy I think it strikes the right balance personally, but then each to their own.

My only major grips with the player is that it doesn't come with a scart lead, this meant that i couldn't play NTSC format DVD's in colour until i purchased one. I ended up picking a JVC one up from Dixons and it works fine now. Another slight annoyance really is that when you play Audio CD's through the player you can only see a black screen, a little colour or visualisations wouldn't have gone a miss, but then who cares that's what you stereo's for anyway!

Overall an excellent player at a brilliant price and the red dwarf and office episode on the free dvd were the icing on the cake.

fantastic !

I bought this to play DVD's that my Playstation 2 had problems with. Well what can I say - it played them all without a glitch. A scart cable is needed, but apart from that it's very easy to set up and extremely quiet. Five stars for quality and value - you won't go wrong!

A good buy

Excellent quality

Great reproduction and generally very consistent, but it does seem to freeze momentarily (for about 2-3 seconds) on many scene changes.
