Let down by poor reception
I bought this for use on my daily train journey to work.I found the unit to be unlistenable due to the poor quality radio reception. It was all hiss and drop outs even on the mono setting. The unit has been returned.
excellent product
Am very pleased with this product. The sound is of good quality. I use my own headphones which are more secure when I am running with this radio. Reception ok but not good inside but we do live in an area with poor reception. It is very light and the clip on the back is firm enough to secure it to running gear. Very pleased with it.
Sony SRF-S84 FM/AM Radio Walkman - Silver
I bought this for my partner and he makes full use of it as he enjoys listening to radio BBC4 and he can now listen without disturbing others. He has had no problems with it and he uses rechargeable batteries so it's not that costly in buying new batteries all the time. A good buy.
Simple is good!
I bought this to replace an old Sony ICF-SW1 that had packed up after more than 20 years use.
Controls are very easy to operate, which is useful in the dark (I'm mystified by the comments below about the tuning dial 'lighting up' - no lights of any description on the one I received).
FM reception is as good as I get with other radios. I'm in a very poor reception area, so the stereo/mono switch does come in useful to reduce hiss.
FM sound quality is good enough with the supplied headphones, and although other phones will give better quality, I'm using the ones supplied because they seem to radiate almost no noise to annoy other people. Lack of a 'sleep' switch is a shame, and the radio usually gets left on overnight, but even using 1000 mAH rechargeables I get several night's use out of a single battery. The plus side is that there are no settings to be lost when the battery runs down.
All in all a great little radio

Tiny genius
This is a brilliant little piece of Kit. Tiny, lightweight and yet producing an excellent sound. Played through my noise excluding earphones it is quite remarkable. It has a permanent place in my bag. To be perfect it would need a sleep function but the battery life appears to be excellent so it's not a big worry.
