Excellent Digital Camera! Skip the Dock, though

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Feb 17, 2003
The DX4330 is my first digital camera and I am very pleased. It really is easy and fun to use. The 3X optical zoom is a very nice feature and the image quality is excellent.

I would have to echo all the good points already made about this camera by other reviewers and so far after a couple months of use I can't see any bad points. Yes, it uses batteries fast but with rechargeable ones then you have no problem!

This camera is very easy to use and produces excellent results. I don't find the "ready" light near the eye viewer any problem at all or indeed the fact that it's a manual lens cap! Night time pics have turned out well and I have captured some really nice landscape night scenes. Put the batteries in and shoot, it's that simple.

Video mode is ok for the use intended ~ a minute long clip with sound. I have found all the modes on this camera to be great value and for all the features you get for the price... then I'd say BUY ONE!

It is really nice to pick out the pictures you like, edit them (the free Kodak editing software is very good) and print them. If you want to do fancy stuff such as add text to the pictures, you will have to use a more powerful editor such as PaintShop Pro or Photoshop Elements.

The Easy Share Dock. I would not recommend others buy it. It gives you the dock and a NiMH "Battery Pack." The camera snaps into the dock and it will charge the battery while it is connected. Here is the rub, however: The dock will ONLY charge the special Kodak NIMH "battery pack" - if you have other NIMH batteries in the camera, it will not charge them. I think the shape of the plastic shroud on the kodak batttery pack trips a switch inside the camera to tell it that the pack is in there.

As to uploading pictures - you don't need the dock. You can just as easily plug the camera itself into the PC via the USB cable. Windows sees it as just another hard drive and you can drag and drop you pictures to where you want them.

The USB connection (simple, you just plug in at the back of computer) and attach the other end of the cable into your camera, one button transfer! using the software included with your camera and there you go, easy, great results and *fab* quaility.

Instead of buying the dock, I would recommend the following:

1.) Buy a nice charger and some 1800 NiMH AA batteries - This will solve your battery problems...

Why spend...on the dock? when you can get a charger and batteries...plus have spare ones already charged to take with you as extra and the USB transfer is so easy. SAVE yourself the money and leave the dock on the shelf!

2.) Buy a 128MB mc card...the internal memeory is fine for everyday shots and holds around 47 pics. A memory card is a must if your going away though.

Happy snapping!

Delighted!!!

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Nov 27, 2002
What can I say, I have such a big smile on my face I dont think even the camera can capture it!

Im not a pro photographer, used just ordinary cameras all my life, then moved onto APS which was impressive to an extent but one of my friends recently bought a digital camera and I couldnt resist. Digital imaging has many advantages but the only factor that always stopped me from buying a digital camera was the thought that I could not have a feel of the pictures in my hand, and prints from my home printer where pathetic, but now that film processing shops do the printing for you it is truly fantastic.

Coming onto my purchase, the Kodak DX4330. Firstly you would not find a more cheaper price for a 3 MP camera with so many features. Ive already taken dozens of pics and all of them have been focused, sharp, and full of colour. I wouldnt go into a lot of detail about it's specs and features as they are already listed, Im here to discuss the end result. I agree with some buyers that the bright green light at the back of the camera is a bit close to the viewfinder but I can live with that. I can still see clearly even in the dark through the viewfinder and it isnt a major problem for me. The autofocus is great and I have had no problem just snapping away with sharp quality pictures. I have used all the different modes available except for the close up and they have all been great. The movie mode is very exciting as well, eventhough the quality isnt great it's brilliant for short clips. The LCD screen is a bit deceiving in movie mode as the quality appears to be amazing but once it is downloaded to the PC and enlarged it isnt as good, but I still love it beacuse it is an additional feature. The camera is easy to understand and it took me less than 10 minutes to figure out most of the things, the manual booklet provided isnt that helpful. The software however is great, simple to use, no problem whatsoever. The only cons that I can find in this camera are that it does not come with a battery charger or case.
The internal memory is 16 MB but I strongly recommend that atleast a 64 MB card be purchased which can store up to 80 3MP pics. Be careful as this camera does not support Compact Flash Cards, I ordered the a 128 MB Viking Compact Flash card with this camera only to cancel it once I found out it was not compatible... I did a fair bit of research before buying this camera, my other option was the Canon Powershot A40, but i wanted a 3mp camera so that it would last atleast a few years. It's [money] well spent and I am very pleased that I made the right choice.

Sales Engineer (retired).

(5 out of 5) by ray on Feb 20, 2003 (Worcestershire. UK. ( I was working in Moscow & Prague.))
Have used film cameras of various types throughout Europe for my work in hi-temperature equipment i.e. furnaces etc., and I wanted better-sharper piccies that could be enlarged to exhibit my work in greater detail. I decided on the DX-4330 after lengthy reading of the specification and numerous visits to the famous local SuperStore. Having purchased the DX-4330 together with a 64Mb Chip and the V4 Dock plus carry case, I set out to prove or disprove the specification. I made comparison with a Sony-DC-P71. In all respects the DX-4330 equals the Sony and in particular picture quality. The video with sound is a Kodak feature not available with the Sony, and very good results when played back through the TV via the supplied video/phono cable.
I must state that the V4 Dock is an essential for me, making recharging both simple and immediate without removing battery from camera...well worth the extra cost. All photos taken at best resolution I have enlarged to A3 without loss of quality and naturally without any `grain` showing. Negative comments? I have only one.....the Kodak carrying case/bag. I paid £15 for this unit which I will never use due to its poor shabby quality. I could do much better for half that price. Having said that I offer the statement that I am overjoyed at the quality of photos and more than happy with my chosen DX-4330. Pictures taken are all exceptional, no loss of quality via processing. If you want a good easy to use, quality 3.2Mb image maker, then buy this camera whilst it is so dirt cheap.Remember to purchase the Dock and extra Memory. Happy shooting and Happy retirement for me.
Regards to all. Ray. Worcestershire.

Excellent camera for novice user - so simple to use

(5 out of 5) by Jane Muldoon on Mar 22, 2003 (Ireland)
After much research and advice from a friend on how many MP's etc. I woujd need I decided to buy this camera. I am delighted with the quality of photo's it takes and the simplicity of use.
I was taking photographs within minutes of opening the packaging and having a quick glance at the handbook.
I would thoroughly recommend this camera to people like myself who have had no previous knowledge of digital photography but interested in trying. I am now hooked. I take my camera everywhere so as not to miss an opportunity of a special shot.
I quickly learned how to e-mail photos to friends and find this really exciting as I have friends in different countries and I can send them shots of the kids etc..
The quality of the photo's is in my opinion as good as my friend's who has spent a lot more money on his camera.
I did not buy the dock - instead I bought a battery charger pack as it is so simple to transfer the photo's to the computer via the USB lead. I also bought a 64MB card to have for holiday use when I will need more memory space on the camera.
The camera is attractive, lightweight and all you need after you buy the basic package is a camera case. I bought a Kodak case for £7.99 in a local photography shop.
My advice is buy this camera and you will not be disappointed at value for money.

DX 4330

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Mar 15, 2003
This is the best electronic appliance that I have purchased since my Sony Ericsson T68i phone. The camera comes with everything you need to begin taking photos though purchasing rechargeable batteries and extra memory is recommended. The 16mb built into the camera has so far allowed me to store 23 best(3m.p.) quality pictures. The battery supplied has a more than respectable length of time and can be extended if you limit your use of the lcd screen. Transferring is also simple and can be completed within a minute or two. This is also the cheapest that I have found the camera so my final comment BUY IT
