Experienced user's review

I have had this, my first, digital camera for 5 weeks and it is absolutely fantastic. Optics and electronics are the same as the Leica Digilux which is a £750 camera. The Panasonic version does not have the red dot on the front but it is less like a brick and handles better as well as being cheaper. The performace of a digital camera does not just depend on the number of pixels, it also depends on the lens and this Leica 3:1 zoom is pin sharp right into the corners at all focal lengths. All the features you would want without any gimics and a really big 2.5 in LCD on the back. Fully auto, program, aperture priority, shutter priority, fully manual, matrix metering, centre weighted and (unusually) spot metering and spot autofocus. Auto flash, red eye flash and rear curtain synch. Manual focus is provided but not really needed. I have found a tendancy to overexposure on very bright subjects - beach scene of white rocks in Spain - but this can be corrected for. Totally brilliant!
