Oh Dear.....

Jan 13, 2004 - By Amazon Customer

Decided to buy this adaptor to compliment my new Nokia 3650 mobile phone, received it, plugged it into my pc, set up the all the software worked fine. Plugged it into my Apple iBook, paired up worked fine until...... Used the Software update on mac os X, which told me to update the firmware on the bluetooth adaptor, which i decided to do, after all it was recommended by apple. Downloaded and installed, worked fine on the iBook, but now will not work with the PC at all, shows up as a Human Interface Device, after around 2 hours routing around, I discovered the line on the d-link website "The DBT-120 will not work under Windows if updated using the Apple Firmware Update software, and the warranty will be rendered void". Cheers Apple...

MORAL OF: DON'T UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE ON THE DBT-120 USING APPLES FIRMWARE UNLESS YOU ONLY WANT TO USE THE DBT-120 ON AN APPLE MACHINE!

USB 2.0, duh?

Feb 8, 2004 - By Amazon Customer

Sorry, I just had to correct the author of the review mentioning USB2. I hardly think "no USB2 support" constitutes a major problem on a Bluetooth adapter.

USB1.1 has a rated speed of 12Mbps, USB2 has a rated speed of 480Mbps. Bluetooth has a rated speed of 1Mbps, yes - one. You do the math. This gadget does what it says on the tin.

(Though do watch out for the Apple Firmware update as mentioned above.)

Smart piece of kit!

Mar 2, 2003 - By Amazon Customer

Quick to install, small and does just the job I bought it for. I use the D-link adaptor to connect my laptop to my mobile phone (Nokia 6310) to collect email while I am on the road. It works a treat. A must for any road warrior.

wonderfull...eventually

Apr 15, 2004 - By Amazon Customer

receved in great condition, auto install worked well.
but the user guide is not the best in the world.

tip: once installed right click on the bluetooth logo in the tool bar quick connect>bluetoth serial port

the range is a reall strong point, between floors.

the nokia 3650 suite worked well once i found out what port the dongle was on. worked with a T68 as well.

overall: with the ability to send from the file viewer, and compatibliity with nokia software, this is worth the messing around for 15 mins.

enjoy

Works perfectly with Powerbook and Sony Ericsson W800

Aug 27, 2005 - By Amazon Customer

I bought this to use with my Powerbook G4 running OS 10.4 Tiger. It worked perfectly as soon as I plugged it into the USB port - no drivers or software to install on the Mac. It has a very small profile and only protrudes from the port by about 3cm.

My principal use is for connecting my Sony Ericsson W800 phone and my Mac. When I did this using the USB cable my Mac would invariably crash following disconnection (it had never crashed on me before that). Now the Bluetooth connection allows me to transfer files without any hassle. The transfer speed is pretty good too (for Bluetooth, as an earlier reviewer pointed out).

If you want to Bluetooth-enable an older Mac running OS 10.2 and above, this product will do the job.
