I love my DVD...

(5 out of 5) by Darren on Oct 18, 2002 (UK)
I have actually owned 3 "cheap" DVD players prior to ordering this Pioneer DV-350 and this is by far the most superior player. All of my concerns and disapointments I had experienced with my old players have been addressed now. It's design is sleek, the operation is silent, menu access speed is nippy too. The picture quality is very high, the zoom feature is fun to play with, the remote is simple but works very well and the sound is crisp.
The player is of a very high build quality as you would expect from Pioneer. It coped well with all of my Region 1, 2 and even my RCE DVD disks, and just as well with VCD, CD & MP3. The MP3 player has all the usual features you would expect to find including program and random.
If you are looking for a low cost, yet quality, feature rich player you will be over the moon with the DV-350.

Fabulous piece of kit!

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Dec 11, 2002
I have to say that the DV-350 is probably the best value piece of electronics that I have ever bought.

Picture quality is superb, especially through RGB Scart - it is easily a match for most mid-range players, and for once the pseudo-surround system on a DVD player actually sounds quite good! I have had no problems at all playing either R1 or R2 DVDs (including RCE), VCDs, Audio CDs or MP3 CDs. Also, despite the fact that the specs say you need an NTSC compatible telly to watch R1, R1 NTSC DVDs play fine (and in colour) on my non-NTSC compatible TV when the DVD mode is set to PAL rather than AUTO.

There is really very little to fault with this player. Build quality is excellent, and the remote is very user-friendly, if a little light. The on-screen GUI is also excellent.

There are only a few quibbles I have with the player (and they are very minor). Firstly, there is only a single Scart (albeit RGB), so I had to get a switcher for my ancient telly (which also has only 1 Scart) so I can use my VCR. Secondly, there is no optical out, although the coax output sounds fine with my A/V receiver, and if you really want the optical you can just pay an extra £20 for the (otherwise identical) DV-454. The final issue I have with the player is that when playing MP3 CDs, only the first 8 characters of the track name are shown on the LCD. The only way to see the entire track name is by using the on-screen display, which means turning on the TV. Although this is very minor, it kind of annoys me as it would have been so easy to have the entire track name scrolling across the LCD.

Aside from these minor issues, the Pioneer is a truly fantastic player, it is an absolute bargain. If you are looking for a low-budget DVD player, look no further.

Pioneer DVD DV-350

(5 out of 5) by DVD enthusiast on Oct 28, 2002 (London United Kingdom)
I have been looking around for a good quality DVD player at a reasonably low price, I must admit I found everything in this little package. Excellent value, and great picture and sound quality. In fact the sound is so good that you notice when a disc has been recorded in a different version of Dolby Sound, compared to DTS sound which is excellent on this player. I had a little problem setting up the player as its default was NTSC format, which after talking to Pioneer, told me what to do to change it to PAL so that it would recognise the TV and play in colour. This was not part of the setting up process on the manual, which I think should be. After this was sorted out, I enjoyed quality viewing and sound on VCD, DVD with it plugged to my NICAM stereo TV. The digital optical output means that it can be plugged it to an amplifier so that you can experience True Surrround sound through additional speakers, that's if you want to. All in all this was an excellent buy, good value for money.

good at twice the price!

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jul 19, 2002
i bought the DV-350 yesterday to replace my toshiba 2109 - purely to enable me to watch DVD-R disks that i'd created. in the shop, i tried one of my DVD 'creations' on both the pioneer DV-350 and on a toshiba SD-220. i must say that i was amazed at the better quality of picture from the DV-350! - the shop assistant explained that the unit uses 2 laser heads not the usual one.
the unit is very slim (in height) and has a great silver finish. the display is very clear, although offset to the right due to the limited height of the unit.
the sound and picture quality is fantastic! worthy of a unit costing considerably more. the disk and menu access is a lot quicker than my 'old' 2109 too.
there's simply nothing that i can fault with the DV-350. i would suggest it to anyone looking for a new dvd player - and if you create your own DVD-R's - look no further!

Premium quality, excellent!!!

(5 out of 5) by Fahri Sinan on Oct 1, 2002 (Istanbul,Turkey)
I've recently bought this unit from a local Pioneer reseller. Video and sound quality of this unit is I think one of the best(if not the best) that I've ever seen. Sound quality is exceptional like every Pioneer product. The unit that I've bought is region-free. The new MP3 GUI interface is excellent, and the menu system is absolutely the best one. Display of the new Pioneer units are very artistic and has a well layout. It can support and read everything that you can throw except SACD. If you don't have a 5.1 digital setup, Trusurround SRS is very good at two speaker setup, giving a very good depth sound from this setup.
