A Superb player, with few disappointments

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Oct 21, 2002
Positives:
-It plays every type of CD. There is an excellent folder system for quick access to mp3 files, meaning for example, on a cd with 180 mp3's, you don't have to press the search button 178 times to get to file 179.
-I have never once experienced a skip on any CD.
-The battery life is excellent and for an mp3 cd, a song can actually be held in memory, so that the CD stops spinning until a few seconds before the end of the song in time to read the position of the next song and hold that in memory respectively.
Alternatively, the DC power supply can be used.
-The overall quality of the product(asthetics, controls) being a sony, is excellent.

Negatives:
-The bass can become quite distorted, but there are controls for the amount of bass, and it becomes unnoticeable with moderate bass settings. Other than this, the sound quality is excellent.
-Compared to an mp3 player with hard disk/flash card storage, the player is quite bulky (only as much as any other discman)

Best value 4 money

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Dec 15, 2002
I have this MP3 player (I don't use it as a CD player at all) for a month now, and have found two things that I am not satisfied with.

First - there is a noticable hiss during MP3 playback (I wonder if there is something wrong with my unit, beause noone else is complaining about this?) Second - you can't eliminate two seconds silence between tracks.

Everything else works perfectly, controls are well designed, bateries last _very_ long, still didn't find a CD that this one will not read.

Sony D-CJ501 MP3-CD player

(5 out of 5) by David Platten on Sep 18, 2002 (London)
I exchanged a Kenwood 727 MP3-CD player for one of these because the Kenwood failed to play any MP3-loaded discs. The Sony has been fantastic so far. Excellend build quality. You can also forward through individual MP3 tracks by holding down the FFW button - something that isn't available on some other players. Sound quality (with 128 kbps files) is excellent. Even the headphones sound good - better than my Sennheiser in-ear phones.

A brill CD player!

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Aug 23, 2002
I bought this CD player after a lot of hesitation, but I was pleasantly surprised by this player. It looks lovely, but looks arn't everything. The sound quality is top notch and the handy-dandy shock proof thing works very well (its not jumped once!) I reccomend this product to anyone who wants a good CD player, but do not want to spend too much money.

Sony MP3 CD Walkman

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Aug 14, 2002
This walkman is really good value. The space for mp3s is phenomenal (probably 200 decent sized tracks on 1 CD-R). The volume goes up quite high so if you're on a plane you can actually hear it over the engines. The screen displays all the names and stuff for the songs and you can have shuffle play to make it less tedious. The shock protection is very useful too.
