Brilliant, couldn't ask for more for the price

(5 out of 5) by Mark Cathcart on Sep 24, 2002 (Austin, TX, USA)
Works as described. It arrived, I plugged it in to the mains, plugged in the supplied SCART lead, inserted a DVD and it started playing. Plays my US and UK DVDs, home created CDR and shop bought music CDs.

The comment that another reviewer made about the volume level was true, but was easily fixed by upping the volume default setting on the DVD player and then using the TV as normal.

The comments about connecting to TV sets from other reviewers I don't understand. Mine came with a SCART lead as advertised, I plugged it in to my SONY tv and it worked first time...

The zoom function is great if you don't have a widescreen TV, 1.5 zoom fills the screen cutting off the edges. The fast forward/reverse at 2x 4x 8x 16x is faultless;

I agree with the comments on the manual. It tells you how to do something but not what that does, or what result to expect...A great buy!

Great Value for Money !!

(4 out of 5) by Steve B on Oct 22, 2002 (BRACKNELL, BERKSHIRE United Kingdom)
I needed a simple DVD player as I am a beginner in this field. Saw the X8 and it was just the job. Being MultiRegional is great. No need to worry about buying from the US etc. Its slim design is great and easy set up manual. Just plug in the scart and of you go. Having a Widescreen TV helps although if you haven't got round to getting one the X8 accomodates.

Only downside is not having the Dolby 5.1 sound integrated but this is overcome by the audio output on the back, for upgrade.

A great buy. Go on treat yourself!!

Quality Player - Budget price

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Sep 13, 2002
I was looking for a second player for my bedroom. I've got a chipped Toshiba SD210 with my main TV downstairs. I was looking for something as cheap as possible that was multi-region and came across this. I've been pleasantly surprised by the results.
Multi-region is a breeze. Whatever disc you throw at it, it just plays, without the need for any messing about. It looks good, fairly slim and silver. It's built fairly solidly - certainly as well as the Toshiba.
Picture quality isn't as good as the Toshiba, but then I paid nearly £100 more for that one at the time. It's decent quality - nothing to complain about.
The remote is a bit cheap and nasty, but it's no big deal.
There's only 1 scart socket, which wasn't a big deal for my needs but may be for some. Also, there's no Dolby Digital decoder. So what, is my response to that. It's got co-axial and optical audio outputs, so you just hook these up to a Dolby digital decoder and amplifier if you want 5.1.
For the money, I can't give this anything but five stars.

Great features...

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Sep 3, 2002
The Kiiro X8 DVD player has to be the best value for money I could find, believe me, I spent about three days reading reviews, searching through hundreds of different models to satisfy myself (at my employers expense I might add!)

...your getting allot of kit for the money. This unit is packed with great features and has an unbelievable array of outputs, ensuring you will have no trouble connecting this little beauty to your existing Home Cinema System ( I use the Kiiro DA-AV5 Home Theatre System..., outputting the sound via Optical Cable).

The unit is a great looking Companion for your Wide screen TV, sits very low to the shelf with contrasting colours, it's a real eye catcher! The set-up is simple; a little playing around with the sound settings and everything was fine. I did the set-up and configuration without even glancing at the manual.

The Player runs smoothly, great colours and sound from a cheap player cannot always be guaranteed, but the X8 delivers. I've had three previous DVD Players of similar value but none have done the job as good as the X8!

As far as what media can it handle, well, the answer is pretty much anything! A simple firmware upgrade allows the playback of VCDs & SVCDs. This is available from Kiiro and comes with full instructions.

My final words on the X8 are "Get One". If your new to the whole DVD thing then this is a great starting point. Or if your like me and want additional features and require specific connections then this will do the business for you too!...

very cool and does the job well

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Sep 1, 2002
after the 800dvd from kiiro went out of production this was my main choice, it's slim and multi-reigon out of the box and has some great features: dts, dolby digital decoder, scart, s- vhs socket, plays dvd's, cd's mp3's etc. and on the remote you can play slo mo by 2, 4, 8, and 16. you can also fiddle with subtitles, volume, memory and zoom. i cant notice a flaw in the picture and you need to turn the volume up a good bit but the sound is fairly clear. amazons delivery is top class- i ordered it on saturday and it came on tuesday(monday was a bank holiday) i was surprised at the features on this looking at its price tag but being kiiro they have kramed the player with all the best features (although it could use another scart socket)i would recommend this player to anybody with an intrest in film and dvd. you really dont need to spent a fortune on big names like sony. all in all this is an ideal player, buy it.
