I have just bought this hi-fi..... meaning that I spent quite a modest time researching and comparing it with many others!
On paper, the specs ARE impressive. The 120W's are all there! It has power, and if you like noise (and are fond of entertaining friends frequently) then this is a robust little thing which will keep you happy. Unlike many other mini-systems, the bass does not 'boom' in a horrible way when playing music loud. It really does come through clearly, sounding nice and low thanks to its w00x.
Its 'surround' modes are better than most other mini-systems with equivalents or graphic equalizers. Obviously can't compete with a proper seperates system, but its still good.
Though it doesn't have seperate bass/treble controls, the w00x can be turned off (onto normal) or can be stepped up 3 times. The Digital Sound Control (Rock, Classic, Pop, etc) does also compensate for lack of bass/treble controls.
It DOES have RDS tuner and 3-way speakers (a lot of websites seem to think it doesn't). It also has AUX Line Out and Digital Input. Remote control is good - has all the main functions. Even has a power output meter (the round purple dial in the picture).
Overall sound quality is very good (by mini-hifi standards).
Don't be put off by looks - the picture doesn't do it too much credit. The bright green/purple colours are just LEDs which illuminate some of the function buttons. It does look quite smart really!!!
Highly recomended if a mini system with power is what you want.
PS the Philips FWC399 has exactly the same functions as this one. It does not have the w00x though and has 3 DSC modes rather than the 6 modes on this.

Quality system, lasted me 3 years so far, with only one blown fuse to its name in the plug!
I would say its great sound quality and great system & i would reccomend it to anyone. Philips have bought out some cheap and nasty systems in the past few years any i would avoid them but this is impressive!
