I bought this DVD player for my Dad, as he was just setting up his TV and Home Cinema amp, and needed an entry level/mid-range DVD player. I have a NS400D, so I was already aware of how Sony make great DVD players and this model (the NS405) is no exception.

It was out of the box and set up in about ten minutes, the onscreen Quick Setup and informative manual told us everything we needed to know.

The first DVD we played was Star Wars Episode II, and with my Dad's Sony Home Theatre System and Panasonic TV we were blown away! The picture is clear and sharp, and if the player handles a disc like Episode II with no problems then it gets my vote!

I recommend this to anyone who wants a good solid DVD player, that's easy to use, and has all the features of more expensive units.

Unlike the disappointing VCR (the SE-720) which I bought at the same time, this DVD player is excellent. Very easy to set up and simple to use, but with all the features you could need on any DVD player, let alone one at a price which makes it a pretty future-proof entry model!

Flawless picture, six-disc memory (ie. remembers where you left off even if you remove the disc) and great sound re-production left me very happy with the purchase - the only shortcoming is that it only has one Scart which meant I couldn't connect everything exactly how the Sony web-site recommended.

A final bonus is the slim design so it didn't even take up too much room. So, overall great, just a shame about that VCR...

this dvd player is an amazing piece of machinery, it never breaks down or pauses, and the picture is extremely clear and it so easy to set up it only takes a moment.
