Budget priced DVD player? Look no further

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jun 7, 2002
All I wanted was a DVD player for the bed-room, which would also play CD's and MP3's through the TV.
This player plays everything I throw at it, multi-region DVD's, CD's and MP3's - no setup required, no hacks, nothing. The picture and sound quality are excellent.
I was especially impressed by the MP3 player - burn your MP3's onto a CDR in any amount of folders, the player will load the MP3's in and display file names up to about 32 chars in alphabetical order. You can select any track and you can see what track is playing. It handles Variable Bit Rate easily.
Don't be mislead by the Amazon review, both the player and remote control are well-built and look as good as a lot of brand name machines. I can't see the sliding cover on the remote control falling off in a hurry, and even if it did, it would not affect the operation.
The only criticisms I can make are:
1. The default language is French, so you have to change that as soon as you plug the player in.
2. I can see no way of disabling macrovision should you want to.

Don't Judge a DVD Player by its Picture!

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jul 23, 2002
I bought this DVD player for a gift for my Girlfriend as her video player had packed up. I was a bit dubious about buying a player from a make I have never heard of, but what I can say for the money I am very impressed. The picture on this website does not do the player any justice, as the picture here is a computer illustration. What you get when you order it is a slim shinny DVD player, much smaller than most other players which is good if you are short on space. It has a built in Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder which means you don't have to spend more money on audio equipment, other than the 5 speakers for the 5.1. The picture and sound quality impressive to, though I am not a DVD buff so I would not know if there is a better standard than this. For the money it works.

My only tiny complaint is what the DVD lost in size has seemed to be added to the remote. It is big a bulky but does what it is supposed to do. Even if it does seem a bit cheap. I did have a problem with the remote not working for a while, this was remedied when I removed the clear protective film from the front it worked fine even though it worked fine before then.

To sum things up. It is worth a look for someone on a budget or as a first player. It does exactly what is says on the box though I have not tried the MP3, and multi region function as I left them at my home. It has a better build quality than the cheap players you may find in Asda, or Tesco. And remember to set the language to English and set-up the sound correctly before you start watching films.

Bargain!

Have been looking for a cheap multi-region DVD player and this fits the bill nicely. It's not the prettiest model around. If you want that you can pay a bit more and get the H&B 5415, which looks very cool. There are loads of customer reviews on that model, so it's worth taking a look. I hadn't heard of H&B before, but the customer reviews on that model were really positive, so I took a chance on this one. It's well built, plays multi-region without having to do anything. It was easy to set up - after going through the set-up screen and playing around with some of the settings. Picture quality is fine. I'm running the sound through a Creative 3500 surround setup, and that works well too.

No frills, nothing exceptional, just a good multi-region player.

Perfect for first time DVD player owners

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Aug 7, 2002
...My DVD player arrived safely two days after I ordered it and was incredibly easy to set up. I I literally just needed to plug it into the wall and bung the supplied cable into my TV and the back of the player and it worked.

Some people have whinged about the remote, which is, admittedly, a little chunky, but still very easy to use. At least you're not likely to lose it anywhere. The player was set to French when I first turned it on, but it only took a moment to enter the menu and change the language.

I'm no technology-buff, but the sound is fine and the picture is very sharp.

I'd say that for someone buying a first DVD player or for someone just wanting a good player without too many frills for a good price this is perfect. It's a real bargain.

Multi region marvel

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on May 12, 2002
This is very good value. It is simple to set it up and you are away watching movies in minutes. There is no messing about with hacks to make it into a multi region player. It also has MP3 playback as well as CD-RW playback. I would recomend this player for anyone who needs an excellent DVD without having to spend a large fortune.
