Stunning multi region DVD Player!

(5 out of 5) by Mr S. Newberry on Jul 27, 2002 (Stafford, Staffordshire United Kingdom)
Having spent some time looking for a multi region dvd player I was pleased to find a website that has reviews from people who have bought different dvd players. Without these reviews I would no doubt still be looking for a dvd player for a while longer.

Upon opening the box I saw what has got to be the most slim line dvd player around. I plugged in the supplied power and scart cables hoping setup wouldn't take too long as some of the other reviewers had trouble setting their players up, but to my suprise I didn't need to do anything, it was already set to english and the correct number of speakers. The dvd player itself looks great. Playback of dvd's is perfect and sound quality is great. I feel the only thing that lets this dvd player down is the remote. While the remote looks stylish I found some of the buttons to be a little spongy, firmer buttons would make a world of difference.

Really hard to fault

Suprised by the high-quality build. Everything fine at the price, I'm very pleased. Wanted a cheap multi-region DVD player and got a great machine that doesn't cost much. I think you know what I mean! Nice one. Added bonus: it looks flippin' brilliant, like mean esoteric hi-fi.

Just as everyone elses reviews said it was...

I was kind of afraid to buy an off brand but the reviews here seemed to point out that it worked great. I'm american living in Ireland and have a load of U.S. DVDs. Plus when I go back to the states I like to buy them there since they are sometimes 50% cheaper to buy. But I also buy some here and rent so I needed multi-region. The multi region function works and doesn't even suggest a hint of a problem. The device is full width size so keep that in mind also. It's attractive, the image is perfect, audio control is great. The only thing I could really complain about is the fast-forward and reverse on the control is strange. I would prefer traditional buttons ya know, nothing fancy. Also for some reason, about once every 10 DVDs or so it will pause for a second or two and hiccup then resume play. Don't know what thats about.

Excellent value for money - Quality product!

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Aug 5, 2002
Being relatively new to the DVD format - and Having been playing DVD's on my trusty playstation 2 for a while (without any problems i might add), I decided to look for a purpose built machine to take some of the workload from my little black wonderbox (Gawd bless it). I have to say this player is outstanding for the price. It will play anything you put in it CD;CDR,CDWR,MP3,( I stopped short of trying a digestive biscuit) and its multi region to boot. Picture quality is clean and very crisp. As a couple of the other reviews here have pointed out - the sound takes a bit fishing round to intially set up, but only has to be done the once.

All in all - this player at least equals a lot of other more expensive players I looked at before taking the plunge. I would recommend this DVD to ANYONE looking for their first DVD.

I think this bit of kit is a real winner - well done Amazon on stocking this at such a good price.

Looks aren't everything...!

(2 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jun 8, 2002
Like many of the other reviewers I was hesitant to buy a lesser known name product. However on reading the reviews I was tempted by the price, the slim profile and the versatlity of discs played. Unfortunately I wasn't able to verify the variety of media supported as I could not get a picture from the unit, although sound did register. As for the slim and stylish looks - great as long as you don't touch. The feel of the product was too light and cheap, no solid feel to the unit and the power button action was vague. Ok some people might say that you get what you pay for but I say, if I buy a product to play DVDs etc. then it should be able to perform the intended purpose. I have used a number of DVD players over time and this is a product I would not recommend. Amazon Customer Service was excellent as usual, but I would also like to see in addition to reviews (which most buyers wouldn't write) a figure for number of units returned as defective. Buyer beware!
