Well, I tried to resist getting a digital camera because of the cost and not so good picture quality. Having seen the price drop and the features get better and better I decided to go for it and went for a name that I associate with good cameras namely Nikon (I had an old Nikon SLR and it was great).
When you unpack the camera you soon notice that the Coolpix 2500 is very well made and has a real solid feel about it. The manual runs thru the different features very well and is easy to understand. Once the battery has charged up you can set it to auto mode and can get started straight away. There are 12 scene modes pre-set in auto mode that allows you to fine tune the camera for different situations, ie portrait, indoor, night time, panoramic etc.
In Manual mode you have a lot more choices and you can really have a go at getting it "just right" by adjusting the camera settings.
The picture quality is great and the flash seems to work very well. The only down side for me is that I found it very awkward getting the battery out for re-charging. Apart from that the camera is great and looks nice as well.

I purchased this camera in August 2002.In Greece.
Being a hardened Single lens reflex user for some 40 years,I was looking for something light easy to use and with the features to produce the high standard of Photography that I am acustomed to using.
(1) the compactness of this camera was first class ideal for using on vacations.
(2) The features on this camera was excellent.The Menu modes and scene modes were easy to use.
(3) I found that the manual modes were an addded feature for the experienced user.
(4) The quality of the lens is good
(5) Downloading onto the PC is very easy
The only fault that I have found with this camera is ther fact that there is no eye level viewfinder and difficulty can be experienced in bright sunlight when framing the subject.This I am hoping can be eliminated when I purchase the LCD shade availible from Nikkon
To sum up this is a fine medium priced camera that can be used by the complete novice or more advanced photographer.
I will be using it more than my SLR

I recentely bought this camera and have not been disappointed. I had spent a long time looking around a different cameras but could not deciede on which one to buy until I saw the Coolpix 2500 at a bargin price. I have been a 35mm SLR user for sometime now but I can honestly say for the majority of pictures I will be using the new Nikon its superb.
It has enough different options for most users presets such as indoor, night etc as well as some manual options and the quality of pictures in all situations is great. It is well built and easy to use and easy to download pictures onto your PC via the supplied USB cable.
All in all a really, really good camera I would highly recommend it to anyone.

This camera was a great buy for a great price! I was first struck by its cool design. It looks great and is compact and light enough to carry it around with you anywhere. Moreover, picture quality is good enough for the average user and downloading it onto a computer is quick and easy. The software supplied is also very user friendly and handy. When on high picture quality, the digital zoom is very efficient.
Basically, it's a very decent camera and probably the best and most affordable in its range.

Stylish, simple to use, and great photos...a great buy.
