As a university student, having a voice recorder is crucial. Having used an anlogue one for a while, i decided that it was a good time to change. Sony ICD-MS515 Digital Recorder is a compact and elegance machine. It comes with 16 mb memory card by sony. The recording time on the 16 mb card depends on the format (LP or SP, I recommend an SP mode since it sounds better and to buy an extra memory card ( i have just bought an extra 128 mb card and now i can record over 20 hours worth of lectures!). The USB link is fast and the sound conversion programme is easy to use. You can also use a speech recognition programme (dragon v5) to turn your lectures into text. The battery lasts for about 10 hours but i do think it is best to buy a pack of rechargeable batteries,if you are planning to use it extensively. All in all, the recording is EXCELLENT! Initially, i was hesitating on whether to go for other makes ,but i decided to stick with sony and i was certainly not disapointed. My advice, get one if you can afford it!

I am sooo thrilled with this recorder. I was so surprised to see how small and light weight this recorder is, it's smaller and lighter than my cell phone. It will be great to carry it with me and be able to record thoughts while I'm out and about, and to record lectures when I attend writing seminars! Most people I talked to didn't even know this type of technology existed. I was pleasantly surprised to find how easy the instruction manual was to follow. I consider myself lucky to have the Sony ICD-MS515!

This tiny little marvel is an essental piece of kit for anyone who has to make recordings of lectures or seminars. Having previously used a mini disk recorder I have soon come to relaize the benifit of the files and folders options that the ICD-MS515 provides. The provided software gives plenty of options to sort and organise your data and convert it into industry standard formats. This becomes essential if you have to share your infomation with others who do not have the sony software.
The microphone provides very excelent recordings. I have used the ICD-MS515 in the corner of a busy classroom to record a child reading and the results were very good indeed. Background noise was of course present but you are clearly able to distinguish one voice from another.
I agree with with comments that other reviewers have made about the small capacity of the supplied memory stick but this can be rectified very easily with a larger stick. It is here again where the ICD-MS515 stands out from the crowd. This unit has expandable memory which may not seem essental immediately but when you want to record a full days worth of lectures without the ability to download the information, it is a feature you begin to wonder how you ever lived without!
This unit is expensive but in this reviewers opinion worth every penny. If you want sharp, clear recordings and the ability to store and share information with others the ICD-MS515 is a must buy!

It's an excellent tool for recording ex. class lessons or meetings. The sound quality is very good. The downside of the product is battery usage (lasts ony 12hours +/-).
All the recorded soundfiles are easy to store/dowload to your computer.
