Entry level DVD ROM for any user.

(5 out of 5) by Andrew Smailes (andy@smailes.org.uk) on Dec 8, 2001 (Hastings, England)
The DVD-ROM/CD-ROM drive is just another great combo product by LiteOn. Listen and run all your favorite CD`s with a fast 48x read CD speed and watch all your favourite films on the 16x read DVD-ROM.

I was thinking of getting a stand alone DVD player but when I saw this amazingly priced drive I had to try it out. I was so happy with this product which I managed to get a relative to buy for Christmas ( an idea that you may even use.) as an early present.

The installation is relatively painless and as my machine has Windows XP installing the drivers and software was fast and easy. This was good as I couldn't wait to start watching some of my new DVD's, films like Matrix and The Crow look perfect.

The quality of the drive is wonderful and the picture is as you would expext, excellent. I would recommend this drive to any one, esspecially my self. I have included some techncal data for all of you techies out there.

Excellant Drive For The Money

(5 out of 5) by carman on Aug 13, 2002 (Birmingham, West Midlands United Kingdom)
Bought this drive a week ago. Excellant delivery fron amazon, ordered drive around mignight on saturday and it arrived on monday. Its a little noisy at first when spinning up but it soon quiets down. Power DVD XP is a nice bonus for those without dvd decoding soft ware. Make sure you enable DMA on drive to get max performance. High speed audio extraction, did a speed test using Nero and it was ripping a cd on average at 35x . If you are looking for a good well priced dvd drive don't hesitate just buy this one.

Cheap, easy and works well

(5 out of 5) by Benedict Carey on Dec 12, 2002
What can be said? Installation has been easy and successful on win98se, win 2k and XP. XP did everything plug and play without needing any intervention or any driver disks.
Thus far (6 months) it has been totally reliable with CDs and DVDs. The build quality seems about the same as any low end CDRom drive, in other words, perfectly adequate.
The software with it isn't brilliant, but it does the job, has the needed features and doesn't crash.

For the price, this device represents great value for money.

Cheap, fast and easy to set up

(5 out of 5) by Owen Rudge on May 22, 2003 (St Andrews, Scotland)
I was looking for a cheap DVD-ROM drive, and this drive seemed just the thing I was looking for. I ordered it, and it arrived within around three days, which was amazingly fast considering I live on one of the northern islands of Scotland. Installing the drive alongside my CD writer was simple, and the drive is amazingly fast and relatively quite at the same time. Ripping audio CDs is something that used to take ages - now it's done in minutes. The drive has also coped with several scratched or dirty CDs I've thrown at it, which my CD writer couldn't manage. Ten out of ten!

Lite-on DVD

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Aug 4, 2002
Tough competition arrives in the DVD Drive market - The Lite-on 16X Speed DVD-ROM Drive is exceptional, especially for the price. It is fast enough to play DVD's with out a glitch, and superfast at transferring CD data, especially copying music!
Every now and again, there are some strange noises that make its way out of the drive, but i suspect its that fact that I used 6 screws from my old drive to install the new one when Lite-on only supply you with 4 screws? Perhaps theres a reason!

Overall - I couldn't be happier!
