...erm... a review of the Sony MDR-V500 headphones...

Aug 2, 2004 - By David Watts (Leeds, Great Britain)

After reading the some of the reviews that were critical of the clarity of the bass frequencies of these headphones, I was slightly wary of buying them... but after looking at the specification, I couldn't for the life of me think why this could be possible - I mean it goes down to 10Hz for god's sake! So I took the plunge, and it has to be said, that these are the most comfortable, best sounding (they really let the sound breath... if you know what I mean...) headphones I've ever owned. The bass response is perfect - if you don't think you have enough, then it might help to turn the bass up on the device that you are playing from... or that just me?

These headphones are quite simply outstanding for the price.

Sound

Dec 21, 2006 - By Codemaster (London)

Just got these today and first thoughts when opening the box was "omg there tiny" but when i put them on i was sursprised that they covered my ears quite nicely and by as lightweight as they are i hardly noticed i had them on. The only draw back i have found about the fitting is they clamp to the sides of your head causing a little bit more pressure than im used to with headphones.

The sound repoduction is chrisp and well balanced through the ranges, the bass has`nt distorted once yet. Hearing outside noises is nearly impossible which is good if you want to get stuck into your music.

Pros :- great response to all ranges
loud & balanced
solid design

Cons :- Clamps to head, could get uncomfortable after prolonged use.

Excellent headphones

Mar 23, 2006 - By Foogz (UK)

A lot of people on here seem to be judging these headphones purely on their bass capabilities. This is probably an important issue for Dj's etc but I personally haven't found any issue with the bass response.

The majority of the time I have these cans plugged into my computer, laptop or video camera. The sound quality is great and they do a really good job of limiting outside noise- particularly good when filming. I also use them to play bass guitar and the sound is great.

If i have a niggle my ears get a bit sore after prolonged use- 1 1/2 hours +, but I do have a big head.

:)

MDR-V500DJ Professional DJ Headphones with Swivel housing

Oct 9, 2004 - By Amazon Customer

Too be honest I prefere the V300 headphones there a little more compact than the v500 series and sound much better at high bass and treble levels, but as with most things by sony there more expensive and therefore must be better. try the v300 first there about £15 - £20 and if you prefere the V500 ok then maybe its just me.

Don't buy them!

Dec 27, 2003 - By CHRIS (Scotland)

I am a DJ and I had a pair of Sony MDR-V300 headphones. I thought it would be a good idea to buy the bigger brothers (MDR-V500). Big mistake! These are nice headphones as they are comfortable, have a clear sound and look ace but they have absolutely no bass definition. Take my advice, buy the MDR-V300's they have much better bass and cost less than £20 a pair. They don't look as good but so what!
