Warning about this battery

(3 out of 5) by David Beer on Feb

I've owned a DSC-F505 for two years now, and have run this on two NP-FS11 batterys for that time. But now the batteries are exhibiting some weird behaviour. Initially, after a full charge, they show 70 minutes charge remaining, and they count down correctly. But with about 40 minutes left to go, the counter drops to zero, then the camera switches off. I've read about other people having the same problem, and it is most likely related to the life of the battery. Perhaps it's time to get new ones.
That said, they work well, and no memory effect was apparent. The counter was accurate (until the battery gets pretty old). So look at replacing your batteries every couple of years.

Sony NP-FS11 batteries have very poor lifetime

(1 out of 5) by I R Thompson on Feb

My 1 star rating is for Sony, NOT Amazon! In fact, I would have picked 0 stars, if this had been an option. I'm having to buy a new battery for my DSC505V even though I've not had the camera for more than 18 months. It seems that Sony have admitted that there is a problem with this battery when used with the DSC P1 camera (see their website), but they won't accept that the same problem exists with other cameras that use it. When charged, the camera reports a goodly number of minutes left for about a minute, but then suddenly shows 'low battery' on the display, shutting down shortly thereafter. I cannot believe that a modern NiMH battery is kaput after so short a life - the same technology is used on mobile phones, and look how long they last!! I'm sure it is to do with the (too clever, in my opinion) serial communication that the battery has with the camera. Now, I'm no cynic, but could it be that Sony have defined that the battery must not last longer than a certain number of charges, so as to boost their accessory sales? It wouldn't surprise me, given their off-handed response to this customer when I questioned their service guys. This is their problem, because the next Digi-cam I buy will NOT be made by Sony and I know I am not alone in feeling this.

Sony NP-FS11 Battery

(4 out of 5) by M. Chapman on Dec

I've had this battery for three years now and have never experienced the problems that others have outlined here. Sony have noted a problem with these batteries and DSC-P1 cameras. The following is taken from their website:
Announcement Regarding Free Repair Service for Digital Still Camera DSC-P1.
Solution:
Some users of the digital still camera DSC-P1 have reported that the indicator may show that the battery is fully charged although charging is not completed. This could result in shorter camera operation time.
Because the above occurs depending on the environment where the digital still camera is being used and stored, we will provide a free diagnosis service, and if necessary, a free repair service to improve the consistency of battery operations of the affected model. We ask customers who wish to take advantage of this free service to contact our service office for further details. This free service will require the digital still camera, AC charger and battery to be kept temporarily at the service office.
Affected model: Digital still camera DSC-P1.

Poor Battery Life

(3 out of 5) by Angus G. Cockburn on Apr

I have had a couple of these batteries for about two years and both have started behaving erratically. They take full charge to about 74 minutes but cut out with an empty battery warning at about 40 minutes. For batterias that cost so much this is not acceptable - neither have reached anywhere near their claimed number of charge cycles - Sony do not seem at all interested
