Kodak DX 3500 With Docking Station

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Aug 19, 2001
For general purposes this is an excellent camera. Picture quality, especially when displayed on a good computer monitor, is first class. With the camera set at "good" (900X600) the 8MB internal memory stores up to 50 pictures. The camera is very easy to use and downloading images to a computer using the docking station is quick and simplicity itself. I have found the close-up facility to be good, producing excellent full-screen photos of a single rose for example. The image is sharp and the colour rendition superb. I fear that my compact 35mm film camera has now become obselete! The Kodak Picture software supplied with the camera is easy to use and adequate for most purposes. In any case once the images are downloaded to the PC it is easy to use any image manipulating software. Iam very happy with this package from Kodak and have no hesitation in recommending it.

Review of Kodak DX3500

(5 out of 5) by Mr M Aldous on Jan 4, 2002 (East Anglia)
I've just recieved my camera and have to say that it's brilliant!! Its the first digital camera I have owned and I'm impressed. The process of transfering pictures from camera to computer is incredibly easy with the docking station, and the software supplied is also excellant. More experienced users may find it a little simple but if new to digital photography then the whole package is a must. The picture quality is first class (2.2M) and pictures I've taken with the digital zoom (x3) are clear. My favourite is the video out meaning I can show my pics on other peoples TVs, if they dont own a computer. At this price, this camera is excellant value and I cant recommend enough.

Fantastic Camera

(5 out of 5) by David Allen on Jul 19, 2001 (UK)
I bought this camera just over 2 months ago and I cannot fault the DX3500. Ease of use is most important for me and also basic funtions instead of the 50 or so choices of some other cameras. Personally they just confuse me. I require a camera to take pictures as easily as possible with a few options to use where necessary and I reckon most people are the same as me. The quality is such that I can blow a picture up to A4 size and it is perfect. I cannot recomend this camera highly enough. If you are looking for a digital, look no further. The docking station is a very good idea. Left plugged in to the mains and to a USB port, put your camera on the station, press one button and the software is called up on your computer and your pictures are downloaded onto the screen for you to do with what you will. The photo manipulation software is not the best I've seen but to be quite honest, the camera is so good you do not need to change them. In conclusion, BUY IT.

Ignore the detractors!

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jan 22, 2002
This is an excellent little camera and a fine introduction to digital photography, both in terms of its price, ease of use and quality of image reproduction. Although it has been criticised for a lack of advanced features, the key to remember here is that it was designed with simplicity in mind. Although somewhat chunkier than a lot of digital cameras, it is comfortable to hold. It has a powerful built in flash, with red eye reduction and a fill flash option - useful for subjects with strong backlighting. The 3x digital zoom is ample for most average users, and the macro setting takes excellent close ups, which retain clarity even at a distance of around
6-7 inches.

The print quality is also excellent - even printing on plain inkjet paper for leaflets, newsletters etc, produces crisp images without graininess and pixelisation. Anyone who says otherwise needs to learn how to use an image editing program, because, as with all digital images, photos taken with the DX3500 need to be resized for printing.

It is also extremely user friendly - far less complicated than a 35mm camera. On the down side, the imaging software Kodak provide is at best basic, but there are many excellent freeware programs that can be used to counter this. There are also additional lenses and filters to be had for around £37 per item which will hardly break the bank.

All in all, this is a wonderful little photographic tool, when used properly. I would highly recommend it to anyone just getting into digital photography or indeed, photography in general. More experienced users might prefer a bit more sophistication - but this comes at a price! For value for money and user friendliness, this product gets full marks from me - and I'm a really hard person to please!

Digital Cameras, finally get easier to use.

(4 out of 5) by Kevin Wragg on Jul 6, 2001 (UK)
The new DX3500 camera from Kodak is the first in a long line of new "Easy Share" cameras from the people who invented photography. Previously we have had to connect the camera to the PC, open some software and down load the images. Now with Kodak's Easyshare system the docking station does it all. It recharges the batteries, downloads the images to the PC and automatically opens to PC software - simple. The camera is light and has a good feel, albeit slightly plastic. The picture resolution is great (2 megapixels), the easyshare docking station makes everything simple and easy to use. The camera however only features a digital zoom (2X), so no optical zoom available on this model - which can be a problem, but for the price who can complain. It even has 8MB of memory built into the camera, independant from the compact flash card which supports 16mb. I love this camera, it is small, lightweight, simple, feature packed, good quality and reliable....all the things I look for in a digital camera.
