If you long to see your digital photos in glorious living colour this printer will deliver! And text is crisp and well-defined. I found it easy to set up (although a serial or USB cable is required as a separate purchase ...) with the CD software provided by Epson. The printer has produced sharp detail and excellent colour balance on Epson's own photo glossy paper....
I found this printer ideal for use with my Fuji Finepix 4900. Running costs are fairly low in comparison to other, cheaper, inkjets but the results are second to none. Beware of false economies and shop around for best prices.
Head cleaning nightmare
Although it is true that print quality on this low end printer is impressive I am overall very disappointed with this purchase. Main gripe is that I spend more time sitting at my computer using the printers head cleaning utility than actually using it for printing documents/photos. Print quality is inconsistent due to this issue.
... one awesome piece of kit ...
This is one awesome piece of kit. The colour reproduction is second to none.and don't bother to look for graininess..... You won't find any.the 790 produces prints as good as the ones you get from the lab adopting the tried(and expensive)and tested method. Iteamed mine up with a fuji finepix 601z and i get prints as good as the real mcoy at a fraction of the cost.so go on treat yourself, you won't regret it.
Head cleaning nightmare
WHen I first got this printer I was more than happy with it. The prints it produced were perfect and I couldn't fault it in anyway. I started to change my mind after the second time I tried to use it a month or so later, and found the print heads clogged. They cleaned OK, but the third time they didn't and I had to clean it and leave it stood for a day before I could use it. Finally after a couple of years the pink coloured ink head partially blocked and there was nothing that would clean it. This was resulting in lines across my photographs... Within a few months it had bocked altogether and my photos were printing with a "green" bias. If you use it daily I guess it's OK... if you use it for printing photos every now and then from special occasions, then beware!!!!
