I opened the box and realised how much of a compact digital audio player it is. It is a great size making you be able to use it for the gym and any exercise. With the small carry case you get with it, it clips on easily, just like the headphones you get with it.
THe player is not a giant big brick that need cementing into a wall, it is about the size of the Nokia 8210 (its steady shape is great).
64mb get up to 2 hours of near cd quality music, just enough for me. The hard part i found with it was getting the software to work properly. Once you have installed it off the disk you need to load songs onto it, i had a problem getting the hardware to communicate with the software. This was fixed but if you're not stupid like me then you will realise that your USB connection is not the problem, the options of the software are! Before anything you need to fix your options and specify your audio player and what type of files it can hold e.g. MP3, WMA.
Trust me, if you want a good quality, reliable and handy mp3 (digital audio player) get this!
Overall i have rated this a 5-star - easy hardware, basic software, a gem of a player!
Simple and elegant
This is a great little digital audio player, its usability improved by the fact that it plays not only MP3 but also WMA format audio files, which with their smaller size means you can pack even more music into the 64Mb of memory that the 600SE sports.
Installation is a breeze, with the USB connection making things simple. The Rio software seems quite competent and you not only allows you you build up a database of your music and playlists to download to the 600SE player, but you can also burn your own CDs from the same software.
The 600SE itself is very curvy and pleasing to the eye - also to the touch as its quite a tactile device. Overall solidly made only the slightly fiddly battery cover clip seemed a bit fiddly. The display is great, high quality with lots of information, and a nice pale blue backlight for use in lowlight. The controls are straightforward and easy to use and the player supports plenty of features via a natty little set of popup tabs.
Though no audio buff the quality of the sound seems great to me and the headphones with the round the ear clips sit nicely without falling out or you having to continually adjust them as they move about.
All in all a great little music player, highly recommended.
Small, great sound wat else do you want?
I bought this mp3 player as I heard dimond rio was one of the top makers of mp3 players. At first I was a bit wary because of some bad reviews on amazon but I'm glad I ignored them. This is the best thing that I've ever bought besides my ps2.
The software is very user friendly, the rio 600 is so small its very portable, the sound is great and the life of the battery is amazing - 10 hours from 1 AA batery.
The 64mb is just right for the average person as it holds nearly 2 hours....thats enough for me cause when i listen to the songs I just load on some different ones.
Trust me if u buy this u wont be disapointed!!!
An excellent player!
I upgraded my old Rio PMP300 to the 64MB Rio600 3 months ago. It has nice curved styling and clip on covers if you get tired of the default black.
All important sound quality is excellent!
The original PMP300 was good, but this is an even better player, fully supported by Windows XP and Media Player. Good bass definition and nice features like playlist setup and track delete all on the player itself. The USB interface is very fast - a typical track takes 5 seconds to download (about 10-15 if you convert from MP3 to WMA). Good battery life - even with the LCD screen - which has a nice blue backlight and displays track name and all the running time info.
Downsides: The battery compartment cover is a bit fiddly and flimsy.
The cool wrap-over-ear headphones supplied with it broke last week.
It's quite hard to see through the oval shaped window over the LCD screen.
It's alright... but....
I bought this as a replacement for the 500, as I wanted to be able to use WMA encoded files. It does, and they sound great, at 64 kbps. However, the good news stops there. I've just returned my second 600 due to faults. The first one became corrupted upon updating the firmware. It updated okay and played fine until I made two playlists from the tracks held on the player. Then I could do nothing. It wouldn't play, bring up any menus, or even switch off properly. Upon getting a replacement 600, that has two major problems. One, the battery drains constantly, even when it's not turned on. A battery last about 10 hours without using the player at all. Secondly, the button for forward selection of tracks/menu items doesn't work. The headphones are annoying, in that the cable which is supposed to thread through the earpiece never stays there and has to be rethreaded everytime they are taken off. The display has sacrificed functionality for appearance. The whole player is so curvy, but the display is too curvy, making it difficult to read some parts of it near the edge of the screen. The sound is great, which merits 3 stars, but the hardware leaves an awful lot to be desired. The 500 was a much superior design, although the menus were harder to access. If only it played WMA....
