WAAAAAAY better than the shuffle, iPods inhale profusely in comparision

(5 out of 5) by Robert E. Mcalister on Oct 25, 2009 (Jacksonville, FL, USA)
This is the perfect mp3 player. The fact that you can expand the memory to 18+ GB with an inexpensive microSD card??? holy cow. I used my wife's iPod shuffle before this, and there is no comparision, really. Except that this is 20-30% cheaper, and 1000% better. This has a built in customizable equalizer, something which the ipod did not. It has a screen similar to many expensive ipods that help you navigate the simple menus, although it does not play video ( I don't watch video when I work out, run, or mow the lawn). Battery life is great, and this isn't much larger than the shuffle. Clips on in the same fashion, weighs just as much, and the sound quality is phenomenal. It is a USB plug and play, so you can just drop and drag files to it. SOOOOO easy. No proprietary garbage software to use, like i-tunes. There is an option to sync playlists and things with Windows Media Player, but I haven't, and won't care to try. I just load all my favorite songs and randomly play the music. And now with Windows 7..hehe...Mac will dwindle back to fan-boy status and they'll have to start making cheaper, less proprietary hardware and software, or they will never survive. I'm Robert, and I'm a PC :)

Great for Podcasts and Audiobooks

(4 out of 5) by gfunkusarelius on Nov 23, 2009 (atlanta, ga)
This player is great for all the general reasons you can probably see- it is small, has cheap additional storage via micro SD cards, etc, but one thing I love about it is the bookmarking for podcasts and audiobooks. You can resume where you left off on a track, so you are free to bounce around. All the other MP3 players I have had were terrible for books and podcasts because if i wanted to change to another track (or accidentally bumped the forward or back buttons) I would lose my place and have to scan forever to get back where I was. I felt like a prisoner to a track because I knew if I stopped listening 45 minutes into a book, I would never come back to it.

The only two cons I have on this player are the battery life and the sleep/wake options. This is mainly compared to my Walkman, so it may not be bad for most players of its size.

In terms of battery, my Walkman never really seemed to need to be recharged. I guess the occasional plug-in for transferring music was enough to keep it going. The Clip+ seems to always be almost dead and has gone dead on me a couple of times in workouts because the indicator isn't that good (goes from half to empty). That said, it's a rechargeable battery so it's no big deal, you just have to remember to charge it a bit more.

Regarding sleep/wake- the Walkman would go into sleep mode within seconds of stopping a track and i could leave it for days and when I came back and pressed play, it would start instantly- no logon, no hello, just the track playing right where i left off. The Clip does not turn off when you stop playing. There are options to set it to turn off or sleep automatically after a given duration, but when i have that on, it will sleep or turn off even if music is playing sometimes. If I am missing something, let me know, but that seems ridiculous. So I have to manually turn it off when I am done and when I turn it back on, it takes about 3 to 5 seconds to get back up and running.

These negatives are pretty minor and are well worth the advantages of the resume features in playback. It's a great little player.

Great sound, easy to use, expandable storage- what else could one want? If you are ready to abandon being locked-into Mac a rama, this si for you.

Fun, easy to use, lots of features (sharp looking, too)

I'm an MP3 novice, so don't expect a lengthy, nuanced review of the Sansa Clip Plus 2 that touches on eighteen different points of operation. I'll just report that this is the first MP3 player I ever owned and, with only a little help from a technology-savvy co-worker or two, I easily got it up and running and now regularly enjoy stress-free use. I mainly use this for audiobooks at the moment, but music sounds great on it, too (as I found out when sampling several songs already loaded on the device).

I like the idea of being able to buy expandable memory cards to vastly increase the amount of material the device will hold, and I also hope to try out some of the Sansa memory cards preloaded with a thousand songs each (pick your genre). The display on the Sansa Clip Plus 2 is sharp, bright and easy to navigate; the earbuds are light but provide rich sound; and the clip on the back of the tiny unit seems quite sturdy and shouldn't break even with repeated use.

When it comes to electronic gadgets you might want to take my opinion with a grain of salt, but for what it's worth, so far I think this is a great little device at a great price.

cheap, well-made w/ expandable memory!

I have been dragging around my 4 GB Creative Zen V with no display for the last three years purposefully neglecting the Apple impulse like a plague (I use a Samsung Instinct) in lieu of finding an MP3 player that will allow me to interchange playlists (etc.) using flash media. I maxxed out the Zen V and dealt with its Shuffle only feature (no display-remember?) but I could do that because all the music was carefully selected.

Anyway, Gizmag reported on this new unit by Samsa and I realized that this was finally what I have been waiting for. The price on this thing is no comparison to anything else out there (as far as I know) so I got one.

I ride a bicycle, work in a restaurant...my world exists inside the bubble that is music. The material world is a cacophonous place and very hard on the soul from an aural perspective. I need my MP3 player to deliver dependably.

Today was the first day out on my bike with this unit which was clipped to a belt-loop on my jeans (very sturdy clip that runs the full width of the unit). It was loaded with two albums from the freebie included from emusic (Ozric Tentacles-Sunrise Jam and Marrilion's new release). Included in the freebie was also an audiobook download so I got Tom Robbins' Wild Ducks Flying Backwards with he and Debra Winger narrating. When my 4GB Micro SDHC comes in, I will load the book onto it and will have these wonderful stories handy for when I am mopping the kitchen floor, etc..

OK kids that's it from Uncle Daddy for awhile...let me get some miles on this thing and I will get back to you.

BTW, I got the 2 GB because these micro SD cards are currently available with 16 GB (pricy at about $40) and soon 32 GB will be offered. Anyway, my two sons and two nephews are all musicians so Santa Uncle Daddy has his list done...!
