It's OK, but limited .....

I'm just not a fan.

Some people have a knack for installing clear items, like this, on smooth surfaces. I am not one of those people. I usually have a terrible time getting the thing to go on straight and then ensuring that we don't have a bubble problem.

I'm not going to hold my own inadequacies against this product.

It's just that I think it's a underperforming form or "protection" that isn't worth the time and the money. The better alternative is to purchase an actual cover of your choice. (http://www.amazon.com/OCTO-Splash-Proof-Amazon-Kindle/dp/B002BB68ZW/ref=pd_sim_e_5) <--- Oh look, here's one.

It's actually not terribly difficult to get the cover affixed to the DX screen. There was some slight "bubbling" but I didn't find it overly distracting.

While the manufacturer/seller indicates that it doesn't create glare or interfere with the readability of the DX, I think that's an almost correct statement, BUT I can't completely agree. The screen just doesn't "look" the same in the same light as without it. Now, is that a fault...

Well, it depends. The cover that I purchased is not affixed to the screen. Accordingly, the screen ALSO appears a bit different since I'm viewing it through plastic. But, I am quickly used to it. It's just not that big of a deal, for me. For others, I imagine it could be a bother.

What I distrust about the product, and am not willing to actually "test" on the product itself, is exactly how much "protection" it actualyl offers.

Remember, it's protecting the screen, presumable from the main threat - scratches.

So, I put this product over the face of a watch and dropped a handful of change on it, ran a paperclip sharp edge over it, struck it with things made of metal (pen clips, for example) and the product held up well. There was no evidence of scratches on my old watch.

I just think you're better off finding a product that offers protection for your entire device. SPILLS are also a culprit of electronic damage. I remain unconvinced that given the actual coverage of this product, that a spill on the fact of your Kindle DX will not result in some possible damage.

Obviously, the screen protector does NOT protect the buttons, etc. Something else to consider.

I can't knock the product completely for what it does NOT do, but I will say that the useage is limited. Perhaps that is enough for you, but it doesn't make for an outstanding product. I'd like to give it 2.5 stars, but I'm defaulting to 3 because the product basically does as advertised and is easy enough to use - even for a fat fingered clutz like me.

P.S. I somewhat object to the term "REUSEABLE." If you scratch this thing up, you won't be re-using it at all. Also, as with other similar products, once you dinge up the protector, you won't reuse it. It CAN be removed and reapplied, and after 10 reapplications, it was still in space. Watch for curling corners, though, if you do this repeatedly.

Just Okay

I just received my screen protector and it's not all that great. It says it's matte finish and adds no glare, but it's almost reflective enough to use as a mirror. The little installation tool left little scratches all over the protector and the cleaning cloth doesn't remove them, and there's still a few bubbles. I don't recommend peeling it off and reinstalling - the bubbles and scratches got worse. Good luck - I really hope they make another one - Preferably MADE IN AMERICA instead of CHINA.

certainly not non-glare

(2 out of 5) by Boo's Mom on Sep 17, 2009 (Berkeley, CA)
I just purchased a Kindle DX for my 13-year old daughter. I did get her a cover, but I wanted the extra protection for her screen. This will be fine, but there is definitely a glare (I can practically style my hair, if I hold it at the just the right angle). It is not easy to apply; after trying for 20 minutes, there are still many small bubbles. All that aside, I am happy with the added protection, but I don't think I would buy this if I were an adult user.

Too much glare, don't buy it

The installation was fairly easy. I started at the top and slowly worked my way down. There was a sticker on each side to make peeling the back off easier. However removing the front sticker proved very difficult and I had to use WD-40 to remove the gunk left behind. And it turns out there are not two layers like I thought, there are THREE layers. A back that you peel off, a front that you peel off after applying, then the middle "protective" layer.

In the end, this product lasted barely a day on my Kindle DX. The glare was horrible. And like other have said, you can pretty much see yourself well enough to shave or comb your hair. Which meant I had to carefully position the Kindle to read without seeing every light source in the room.

This product is now in my trash can. Stick with the default non-glare screen on the Kindle and just be careful not to scratch it.
