After reading the various (arguably "bogus") reviews, I finally bought one of these units. They appear to be made by the Chinese company (TECYEA- you can look them up on the web) whose prior model USB battery pack also worked with the iPhone 3Gs. To make a long story short, I've tested the Imp500 battery pack and it indeed charges and powers iPods, iPod touches, AND the iPhone 3Gs. Just remember that you have to use the proper USB connector because my "touch" cord doesn't work with the iPhone 3Gs (but the 3Gs cord does seem to be downwardly compatible with the "touch"). I haven't attempted to test the true capacity of the unit yet, but if my prior (slightly lower capacity) pack is indicative, it'll provide at least a couple full recharges for your iPhone/touch. My son took the pack on a long bus trip and he was the only one still listening to music (and watching videos) after the 19hr bus ride (aside from his friends whose iPods he was also able to charge while on the road). My daughter had a similar experience on a trip to Japan. Finally, just in case you're wondering, the battery pack also charges my Sony PSP, Samsung Instinct, and my other USB powered devices that seem to be less power hungry than the iPod touch and iPhone 3Gs (one of my other 3400mah battery packs will charge all of my USB devices EXCEPT the touches and the iPhone). I can't vouch for the longevity of this specific unit, but my older "Tecyea" unit is still going strong after two years. I should also note that with a little digging around on the web you might be able to find this unit at a slightly lower price. If you choose this route, be sure to verify that it comes with an AC charging adapter and cord. Some units seem to omit this important "option." Good luck!

This battery allows me to use the iPhone for many hours and still leave the plane with a charged phone. I also use the battery to charge the phone if I am at a gig or other public place. Rather than plug it into an outlet, out in the open, I'll leave my phone in my case out of sight, charging discreetly. Anytime I find myself stationary for a while, I pull out the external battery and use it, leaving my phone more topped off for when I'm on the move.

This battery has worked flawlessly for me so far (about a month of pretty heavy use). The phone's automatic charge status works perfectly, (letting me know when the phone has received a full charge, just like it does with the Apple AC charger). The battery has never gotten hot or malfunctioned. For the price, it's incredibly convenient. I never have to think about conserving my battery power anymore just to get through the day. I'm liking it lots and just won't travel without it.

My 3G iPhone runs down its battery rapidly,especially with wifi on or play games. This imp500 power pack is very powerful as it describes. It works perfect with my iphone and my husband's blackberry phone. I just back from a trip to Europe. It is really helpful. It also work for my son's DS lite. Kind of all in one. I love this product. Just bought the 2nd one.Highly recommended.

This backup battery gave us a lot of iphone battery juice and it allow us to enjoy watching movie during a long flight without worrying about a battery life. We tested the battery in a trip and found we can use it to recharge iphone up to 3.8-4 times. So far I cannot find other battery product with this capacity. Later we also found out this battery pack is compatible with many other electronics device Nintendo DS and sony PSP. We just bought it from imaxpower.com and it works just fine.
