Nice case

(4 out of 5) by Mrs. M. Breach on Jul 10, 2009 (Santee, CA USA)
The case is light and fits over the Kindle DX well. You can still press the buttons easily and read the books. However, you cannot plug in the power cord in the bottom to recharge the battery. You also have to peel open the top in order to insert ear phones. I like it better than the leather cover though because the leather cover is heavier than the Kindle and has a powerful magnet in it that could possibly demagnitize credit card strips. I would recommend this cover if you are taking your Kindle on public transportation because it will protect it from getting splashed by spilled beverages or wet coats and umbrellas.

Good, But Not Great

(3 out of 5) by Cameron P. Fredman on Aug 19, 2009 (Los Angeles, CA)
If you're looking for something to protect your Kindle from the occasional splash of water or sand at the beach, mission accomplished.

Now the downside. It's very tough to operate any of the buttons apart from the basic next and previous-page buttons. So for reading, it works fine, but good luck trying to use the joystick effectively, and heaven help you if you're trying to type in a search through the thick plastic. You'll have to un-velcro it for those functions. Also to slide the off-on button. And there are no holes for headphones or the charging jack.

In sum, this isn't the sort of case that you'll stick your Kindle in forever. Think of it more like a suit of armor for the beach or poolside. For its limited purpose, it does the job, but don't expect fireworks. And yes, I suppose you could cut holes in the top and bottom if you wanted to jack up the Kindle without undressing first.

Okay product

(3 out of 5) by TPX400 on Jul 23, 2009 (Maryland, USA)
I was looking for a light weight cover for my Kindle DX and found this one online. It does the job by providing some protection, but it is a hassle to try to use the buttons on the device as the cover has no openings and it needs to be removed for charging. I had to order another cover that was more convenient to use.

Kindle DX Beach Time Cover

(5 out of 5) by mbl on Sep 14, 2009 (Yardley, Pa.)
I had read about how there wasn't a slit opening to charge the Kindle with this cover. Of course not! If it did, it would allow in sand and splashing water. I used this all summer on the beach. Before that, I was using a gallon size One Zip baggie when we were on the beach (which I must say works pretty well). However, the plastic on the baggies get scratched, and you have to throw it out and use a new one. That's not very 'green'. This OCTO Splash Proof Case was perfect for beach reading. It seals very tightly around the Kindle and has a clear screen that is quite easy to see through and is not a hindrance to reading. I didn't test it with splashing, but for sitting on the beach, it was terrific.

poor fit

(2 out of 5) by Dawn Roth on Aug 28, 2009 (California)
The splash proof cover is the only one on the market that I know of. The idea is great! However, when the Octo arrived, It was disappointing to have it not fit on my Kindle. The frame is crooked and the buttons on the skin do not line up with the buttons on the Kindle. Its probably functional but way too annoying to look at. So I've requested a replacement.
