While I appreciated the small design, with a pocket inside the speakers to store your ipod, it just plain didn't work! The wire connecting the ipod to the unit seemed poorly connected as sound would come and go as we opened and closed the speaker unit. After just testing it for a few minutes I turned it off. The next day I tried again and no sound. At all. Not with many attempts at getting it working. Cheap....yes....you get what you pay for! Luckily Amazon has a great return policy and I ordered another set from a different manufacturer.
A FANTASTIC BUY FOR $9.99! GET NOW!!!
I was looking for cheap speakers to use with my iPod on Vacation. I didn't want to pay more than $10 for it. I am sooo glad I purchased this. For the price, I am amazed. I would recommend it to anyone. And for the price, I can be rough with it without worry!
Just beginning...
Well, I just got this, so we'll see if it stands the "test of time", but so far I love it! I read about a different portable speaker and when I went to look that up (sorry, I can't remember the brand), it didn't get very good reviews, and I saw this one instead.
I had been wanting something like this for my iPod shuffle for my car. It's great in the fact that the case is hard, so it protects your iPod and so far, the speaker system sounds good. Just be sure to remember to turn off not only the speakers (so you don't waste the batteries), but your iPod as well!
It takes 2 AA batteries. The zippered part is just a tad hard to zip, but nothing major. So glad I found this!

excellent value
Although true audiophiles might find this unit lacking, the Coby Travel Speaker System achieves its intended results. While the sound is good, the battery life is ok and the price was great, I think the unit's best feature is its ability to "take a whacking, yet go on yakking." The speakers themselves are enclosed in some very soft packaging. The packaging unzips and opens like a very small suitcase. Inside, my iPod nano can be securely stored while still connected to the speakers. This came in handy a couple of weeks ago, when my dad borrowed the unit to listen to some 70 year old "hillbilly" music he found on iTunes. While on my back patio, he accidentally bumped into the patio table while the Coby speaker system was blasting away. The speaker system then fell 4 feet to the concrete patio floor, yet the hillbilly yodler never missed a beat. Nano (securely protected in the innards of the speaker system) and speaker sytem were both fine; dusted off the speaker system and no one would know it had ever fallen. I think the earlier comments about taking the unit camping and attaching it to a bicycle are both great ideas. The unit is not designed for concert hall use. It may be used in many situations where most MP3 users would never consider using external speakers. And if I do figure out how to break this unit (I might consider floating it in water if I did not think my iPod would be damaged first), how much does it cost for a new one?
Amazing $10 speaker - Super Deal!!!
This little gem is amazing. Without question the best value for a speaker to use with an iPod. The sound is loud and crisp. Buy without fear!
