I bought this based on the other reviews here. I was mainly looking for something that would give me the best possible picture at a reasonable price. After using the player for a couple of months, I'd have to agree with the majority of the reviewers here. A summary of my PROs and CONs are:
PRO
1) Great picture quality.
2) Has read every disc I've thrown at it (smudges and scratches aside).
CON
1) Very slow to start up and load discs (much more then what I had expected - its really painfully slow)
2) The player gets hung up on discs that have the slightest smudge (both of my older standard DVD player have no problems with the same slight smudge, so this was surprising)
3) Navigating Blue-Ray menues can be a little slow.
In summary, if your looking for a player that puts out a top quality picture at a low price point, and don't mind wiping smudges off your discs before loading or waiting around for it to start up, then it's a good player to consider (I'd give it 5-stars if it wasn't for those two things). If it drives you crazy to wait for a player to startup/load, or if you want a player with all the latest features (Netflix streaming for example) then you might want to look elsewhere.

Solid Perfomer
In my opinion, this is by far the best player for the price. I've owned it a little more than a month and have had no issues. It was one of CNET's top 5 blu-ray choices, which is always a cool status to have.
All in all, It is a great pick for the money, and offers a great value. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a solid performer.

A Blue ray player you will regret buying
Panasonic blue ray player BD DMP 60 and 80 got some positive reviews which made me buy the dmp 80 and I subsequently recommended them to friends.
My biggest disappointment came within less than 50 hours of use. The blue ray part of the unit ceased functioning, had it fixed under warranty (poor customer service) and within 2 months of use it broke down again. Kept my my disappointment to myself until thanksgiving day when my uncle reported similar complaint and defect of a DMP 80 unit he had purchased. Upon follow up with my friends who bought either of the models, I learnt about their malfunctioning units.
I seriously recommend you consider other brands before looking at Panasonic blue ray players. Tons of headache and less value for your money.

OKAY so far!
I have had great luck with Panasonic TV's in the past, waiting from my 9 year old Panasonic rear projection 1080i to die, so I went with a name, Panasonic, that I trust. Had it about a month and it's great, I haven't used the internet features yet.

Worked fine until firmware update.
Purchased the product from P.C. Richard. It worked fine when I set it up and played a standard DVD. Decided to do the firmware update (product came with 2.0 installed; updated to 2.1) and once it updated, the home screen became entirely green and the DVD playback was discolored. Called Panasonic support and did numerous troubleshooting; nothing was solved. They ended up saying that I should not have updated the player, which is illogical to me since the manual itself states to update the player's firmware when they are available. Got a SECOND BD player and the exact same thing happened. I did not bother testing out a DVD on it. I went straight ahead to the firmware update and updated the player. Once again, screen was entirely green. I have checked online and did not find any instances of this happening after updating to 2.1. I purchased the Sony BDS360 instead, at Best Buy, and it updated fine and it is working as it should.
