Great Bang for Buck

(5 out of 5) by Mr. 73 on Nov 12, 2009 (Lawrence, KS USA)
If you need a Blu Ray player this is the one. If you don't need all the bells and whistles this is the one. It is fast and upconverts regular DVD's great!

Second update. Another freeze.

(4 out of 5) by P. Stein on Sep 15, 2009 (Beavercreek, OH)
Second update. Played Stone Angel DVD. Froze for 3 minutes at the 1:16 mark. Played the same scene again using my Sony upscaling DVD. Played perfectly. Replayed the same scene again in the BD 60. Again froze at the exact same point. Definitely a BD60 problem. My firmware is current.

Update: Joined Netflix. Two Blue Ray movies so far. Slumdog Millionaire played perfectly. However there was an 11 minute freeze on Benjamin Buttons. Freeze from 1:16-1:27. I rebooted twice and tried different fixes. Nothing worked. I was never able to view these 11 minutes. I have the latest firmware update.

Original review. I came close to a 3 star rating. Contrary to other comments, I think the remote is confusing. I'm still using the manual when I watch TV, and I know my wife will never use it. I have my Sony DVD with upgrade ability on top of my Blue Ray, and plan to use it on regular DVDs. The Sony remote is so easy to use, and so feature packed. This Panasonic has excellent Blue Ray quality, and great sound. Just watched Slumdog Millionaire, played to perfection.

Firmware upgrade was painless, easily downloads You Tube (turned out to be a very enjoyable feature). Watched Neil Diamond in concert, from You Tube, to my TV, in VG quality. However, I just joined Netflix, and am disappointed there is no Netflix capability. I knew this when I ordered, buy I didn't realize how expensive the Amazon VOD program is. I will probably replace this new Panasonic with one that downloads Netflix, and give this to my daughter. Don't want Roku, though I have read mostly good things about it.

My equipment. Maganavox 720 P (not high end, 3 years old, but stunning picture). Hooked Blue Ray using component cables, since TV will only display 720 P. Sony receiver-no HDMI inputs. It's 10 years ago, but was high end. Using Linksys router, Linksys switcher. Roadrunner Cable running at about 6 MB.

Solid image quality, easy set-up with Panasonic plasma

(4 out of 5) by Trio Canine on Aug 31, 2009 (me)
Does what it is supposed to do--great blu-ray and standard upconverting images. Set-up was a breeze due to Viera link--I just plugged it in, hooked up HDMI, and turned my plasma TV and the player on.

Only negative for us is a lack of Netflix, which we use extensively on our bedroom TV and Samsung player. Maybe I'll feel differently when there is more content on Amazon.

I love my new player. I had no idea what I had been missing watching DVD disc before purchasing this player. I'm learning something new everyday.
