You may never leave your TV room!
I got this model from Amazon about a month ago. Delivery service was excellent. They arrived within the time window and carefully set everything up and waited until I confirmed everything was working.
For the first 100 hours, I used the Standard picture mode with contrast and brightness at 50. After that I used the Spears & Munsil disk to tune. The picture is outstanding. Very detailed, bright and realistic. No one who buys this tv will be sorry.
I found the THX mode too dim and washed out. None of the out of the box modes looked good to me for live sports. The professional reviewers like CNET recommend brightness at a level too high for my tastes (it produces a haze over the picture). They also recommend the Warm2 color temperature which makes the picture look too yellow too me. I thought I would share my settings for those who aren't quite happy with the picture they are getting.
For live sports:
Picture mode: Game
Contrast: 100
Brightness: 60
Color: 58
Tint: -3
Sharpness: 50
Color temp: Cool1
HDsize2
Turn off all the other video processing filters
For movies and general tv watching:
Picture mode: Custom
Contrast: 75
Brightness: 41
Color: 46
Tint: -2
Sharpness: 50
Color temp: Normal
HDsize2
Turn off all the other video processing filters

Panasonic Plasma is Amazing
Amazing TV for the money. I added mine to my cart, then moved it to 'buy later' and checked on the price daily. When the price was where I wanted it I purchased it and received a free Panasonic BD-60 with it. Also, no tax for TV or BD player. Shipping was something I was worried about. Seeing my TV bounced around in the back of an UPS truck gave me nightmares. Amazon shipped this TV via Pilot, a smaller company that did a fantastic job. After setting the TV up I'm almost thinking I should have purchased the 50" model but the 46" was a fantastic price. The colors on this TV are amazing, the picture is just fantastic. THX mode is great and requires very little calibration on my part. Most people will probably put it on THX and leave it forever and that would be a great option too. Plenty of connections on this TV and I was most impressed with the speakers. I haven't setup my full 5.1 setup yet so I'm just using the TV speakers and they are pretty good for a casual TV watcher. For action movies you'll want your own tuner and 5.1 setup though.
I went with Plasma because the picture was much closer to the CRT I replaced this with. For me, the LCD displays are way too bright. I love this TV, I'll recommend it and ordering from Amazon to everyone. The VieraCast functions are nice but I could probably live without them. 1080p content looks amazing on this TV.

Great deep color
I bought this 46 inch Plasma 4 days ago and it is amazing. The colors are vivid and the blacks are deep. The THX is dim but I use the other settings, custom , standard or vivid. Outstanding deep colors that are hard to believe. I own a rear projection JVC DILA which still has a good picture as long as you replace the bulbs and also a Samsung 32 inch LCD HD for the bedroom which is good. But this plasma picture is better by far.

Great TV, exceeds expectations
I initially got an LG 48" LCD from Costco for $999, but as soon as I had it installed in my bedroom I realized its shortcomings...picture was too bright, even with the lamp brightness turned down (I know some folks actually like this, but that is not a "true" picture). Close-ups were grainy, and the low screen refresh rate (60 MHz) made fast moving images (sports, primarily) look blurry.
After a lot of research I went for the new 2009 Panasonic G10 48" plasma from Amazon. "I paid $1319 for it and at that time it was the lowest price anywhere, including some unknown websites that I am always hesitant to buy from.
TV was delivered in 3 days, and set-up was a piece of cake. The picture was great out of the box (standard factory settings), and with some tweaking using the "advanced" controls, I quickly found the ideal picture for me. Images are very sharp yet warm, the colors are deep and rich. The blacks are the blackest possible, and there is even a setting that allows you to control this to your liking. Images refresh at 600MHz (10x the LCD refresh rate) so watching sports is sheer joy. Controls are easy with simple menu based options.
I watched Valkyrie in BluRay (via my Sony Vaio laptop) and was blown away by the 1080p quality. I can only imagine how good it will be with a real Blu Ray player, which I plan to add soon.
The only irritant is the relatively tinny sound from the built-in speakers, but I will be adding an AV Receiver and external surround speakers soon, so this is really not a concern for me. I like my high end audio eqpt, so I may be a little unduly harsh on the G10's sound quality, but I think they are ok for general everday TV watching.
Overall opinion, the G10 is a great TV and I will recommend it to anyone. [...] you don't need to spend a dime more on the more expensive Sony's etc. I have always preferred plasma over LCD, and this is my second Panasonic plasma (the other is in my den, with a Harmon Kardon amp and JBL tower speakers). Great TV...go for it, you will not be disappointed.
