Io Safe Solo is a great product

(5 out of 5) by C. Haggerton on Mar 10, 2010 (MIDLAND, TX, US)
I use this for internal backups for all workstations in my network. It is connected to a Server running windows server 2003 standard edition. It was recognized
by the server and was just a simple plug and play hookup.
I worry about fire and wind damage to our office so I wanted a sturdy external hard drive and this is it. Very sturdy and heavy. All steel external casing with
fire proof and water proof insulation. Looks like a small vault.
I believe this is a quality product for business use, or personal use if you like the industrial look of this hard drive.

Looks solid, inspires confidence

(5 out of 5) by Jeffrey N. Wilens on Mar 10, 2010 (California)
I've had this set up about 3 months. Built like a bank vault. Of course, I haven't tested it with a fire, but this is a solidly made, very quiet external hard drive. I'm using it to store a full system image, automatically updated daily by Windows 7. I plan on storing video as well in the future. The only downside was I was not able to plug it into my WNDR3700 router so it is taking up some desk space and is plugged into the main computer. It won't work with very many routers because it won't work with Linux. But it can be accessed by any computer on the network by plugging it into one of the computers on the network. Works fine with Windows 7 x64. I had a few post-purchase questions and they were answered promptly via email by customer support.

Why you need an ioSafe

(5 out of 5) by Rodney T. Grill on Mar 10, 2010 (Birmingham, AL)
I've been in the IT industry for almost 30 years now. In that time, I've not only seen many customers lose their data, I've lost some of my own. Whether it's a key business proposal that you worked on for countless hours or photos of grandma and the kids, data is important. There are many solutions including off-site storage and web-based backups, but the easiest, fastest and least expensive method is to copy your stuff to another hard drive. Of course if that hard drive is sitting next to your PC, then it is susceptible to the same perils as your primary hard disk, namely fire and flood damage. But what if you could get all the benefits of that local hard drive without worrying about the risks of fire and flood?

Enter the ioSafe! Their Solo product is a hard drive encased in a heavy duty housing that is practically fire and water proof. You can quickly and easily copy your data to the drive and rest assured that it's safe from the most common environmental risks. If you can plug in a USB cable, you can use the ioSafe Solo. For the price of a typical document safe that would hold a cubic foot or so of printed documents, you can buy an ioSafe that can store a lifetime of photos, documents and other electronic data. While the ioSafe doesn't address all possible risks to your data (like physical drive failure or operator error), it does address the risks that no other on-site device can.

I highly recommend this device. It's easy to use and for a modest price, you can sleep much easier at night knowing that your data is safe from fire and flood perils. I am completely satisfied with this device and would recommend it for all who want to protect their data.

ioSafe Peace of Mind

(5 out of 5) by Cal Man on Mar 6, 2010 (San Francisco, CA)
I've had my 1.5TB ioSafe for about 6 mos and have found it to perform flawlessly. It arrived promptly from Amazon, was easy to set up on my PC, and data writing/retrival speeds are very acceptable. Living in CA, I felt that the small premium I paid for the product was well worth the added protection of my data that this product has demonstrated in performance tests.
