Great camera, not a great video recorder

Love the camera. Very small. Very good Quality pictures. The video sucks because of the fact that it pics up very little audio, ever from a person only a two to three feet away. Even me holding the camera and talking from at the most a foot between the camera and my face, it was hard to hear and understand what i was saying (and this is indoors in a room with no other sound other than the person i am recoding and myself speaking). Great camera for photos though. If you just need pictures i would highly recommend it. If you need a somewhat decent video recorder, do not get this with that aspect in mind. Also, i bought it refurbished from a person on amazon, and i couldn't even tell it was a referb in any way at all. Looked brand new.
Powershot review

This is a great camera for the money. It is quite small and appears well built. Picture quality in normal conditions is quite good. We are not camera experts. The only con is small dial for selecting features. Others have noted this. Hopefully Canon will take note.
Great small camera

Does everything it says it will and does it well. This is a great camera for close to medium range shots, when traveling you can take great stills and very good HD video. Only thing I would fix would be the ability to zoom optically when in video mode. If you want a small camera that captures HD video .... buy this one SD780IS. Got this from Amazon $[...] bucks cheaper than any other retailer or on-line vendor $[...]... WOW!!! Also bought the 8gb sdhc class 6 memory card.
great selection for first digital camera

I received this camera a few days after I ordered it, and I have been very pleased with it. The camera is very easy to operate, yet it offers a lot of functionality. I think it is an excellent choice for a moderately-priced digital camera. One of my primary goals was to obtain good battery life, and this camera does that. I purchased an 8GB Sandisk memory card that permits storage of 2500 pictures. I also bought the Canon PSC-1050 Deluxe leather case that can be attached to a belt, an accessory that was invaluable on our recent trip to Arches and Canyonlands parks. Whenever I wanted to take a picture, I simply pulled out the camera in a single motion with one hand. The lightness of the camera, its ease of use, long battery life, and the quality of the pictures make this a great purchase for its price.
VERY SURPRISED That the video capabilty sealed the deal!

I purchased my SD780is on Amazon just before black Monday for $169 (that price only lasted 24 hours)! I looked at MANY different cameras before purchasing. I wanted something that took great pictures and was easy to use. This camera gave me both. This camera is super small and it slips into my jeans pocket easily so I carry it much more than any other camera I've ever had.
If you want to go full manual it's got that capacity but I've been shooting virtually all auto and I'm pleased with the results. The long shutter lag-time (the time it takes from when you push the shutter button till when the picture is actually taken) frustrated me on my old point-and-shoot but this camera's shutter lag is very short.
The interesting thing was the video aspect. I really had no desire to shoot video with any point-and-shoot that I was about to buy. I have a video camera and figured that I'd buy a new one sometime later. Then I noticed that the SD780is shoots video in HD where others in it's price range did not. I no longer shoot a lot of video but figured this camera might be able to do both. I'm very happy with the video I've shot and believe it's picture quality is superior to my actual video camera. No more of those little tapes either!
If you do intend to shoot much video buy at least an 8Gig SDHC memory card (better yet a 16Gig) and DON'T BUY IT ON eBAY. Lot's of angry buyers that ended up with 3Gig cards marked as 16Gig purchased from Chinese sellers.
