Great image, slow Bluray

Great high def and standard def images. Bluray is slow to load and disc always restarts from begining.

Great bang for the buck!

I bought this when Amazon had it for sale for $1380 or something. Great price for a good quality TV with a built-in blu-ray player. My only beef is with the blu-ray player. Its pretty sluggish and does not play my DVD+R discs.

I know almost all blu-ray players manufactured so far are pretty slow to load up so i guess this one is not too different.

Also appreciated the free white-glove delivery that was included in the buy. I was thinking free delivery meant that they would drop the TV off at your door so i was very happy to learn that they would set it up for me.

Overall, i'm very satisfied with the product and love the picture quality. I have the dynamic contrast feature enabled and the improvement in image quality is pronounced. The contrast improves significantly.

Where are the speakers!!!

We are happy enough with our Sharp t.v. Yes, loading a blu ray takes longer then one would ever think it should. Please be aware of that before you buy it. But the big problem is the sound. The speakers are in the back of the t.v. When you put in a blu ray you can turn the volume as loud as it goes and you still cannot understand what the words are. I have sent an email to sharp t.v. with no response. What a surprise. I will continue trying because there is no excuse for this t.v. Do not buy one!

Looks pretty good

This is a replacement unit sent by Amazon since the first unit had to be returned as it was not working. When the delivery man plugged it in, the green light just kept flashing and the unit would not start. However, Amazon was very good about this - they immediately arranged for a replacement unit to be sent and the same guys also picked up the bad unit.
We are happy with the new unit. Nice picture. Have not tried the blue ray player yet as I do not have any blue ray discs.
This is my first flat panel LCD TV so I do not know if the following somewhat annoying features are normal:
1. When I turn on the TV, the first green light comes on but there is a delay of about 4 - 5 seconds before the picture comes on.
2. The screen produces quite a lot of heat. You can feel the heat even from about 3 feet away.

Horrible Sets, Horrible Customer Service from Sharp Direct

(1 out of 5) by D. Los on Jun 17, 2009 (NY, USA)
On April 7, 2009 I purchased 2 sharp TVs from Sharp Direct Sharp model# LC52BD80U that do not work. I received the TVs on April 28 and have had problems out of the box. I have one TV that won't turn on at all (no sound, no picture) and the other one TV that doesn't have sound stopped functioning after a week or two. Sharp sent a 3rd party repair crew out on May 16, 2009 to repair the set and it functioned for about 30 minutes and then stopped working again. I have been speaking with customer service since May 16th about these issues.

On May 19th Candice (manager) agreed to send me a new TV set that would ship in about 4 business days. On May 27th (after 6 business days) I finally spoke with Sharp customer service since I had not received any status and they told me that they don't know when they can ship a new set to me. I was originally told the TV would ship in 4 business days, apparently wrong information! I received a call back in which customer service explained that this TV is not in production and is on hold and might be discontinued since it is a 52" set. I purchased both TVs on April 7, received them on April 28 and have made dozens of phone calls to Sharp with no resolution to any issues.

Finally, on June 8, 2009 (after almost one month of trying to get a resolution) I finally spoke to Sharp customer service and they agreed to refund my purchase of the two TV sets in full. They said I would get an e-mail resolve notice that I would then respond back to. At that point NVC (the shipping company) would contact me within 48 hours to pick up the TV sets and take care of all of the packaging since I only have one box. I asked Sharp when I could expect the e-mail and they told me in one day. On June 10, 2009, still no e-mail resolve notice received so I called and spoke with Latrice. Latrice said that she sees the notes that I will get a full refund and the e-mail should come in about a day. After contacting sharp again on June 13, 2009 I received another e-mail from Ali Mendez that said that the notice would come via e-mail on June 15, 2009. It is now June 17th and I still have not received the resolve e-mail. I want nothing more than to get rid of these TVs, get my full refund, and go buy another brand.

I can understand that electronics have bad lots but the horrible customer service I received has made me stay away from Sharp products in the future where I would have been a loyal customer had this been handled differently.

The TV looks nice on the wall but too bad it won't turn on. I am going to buy a Sony or Samsung!!!!
