Quality and practical

(5 out of 5) by JOE on Oct 12, 2009 (USA)
I needed a quality and practical portable AM/FM radio for listening news and talk shows (even though we have 12 AM/FM radios in home). What a surprise.

PROS:

Very easy to use. 10 minutes was enough to master all features. The auto tunning is a knock out. In less than 30 seconds it stores all available stations (of course you can manual delete any unwanted station). Then each move of the tunning knob takes you to the next stored station (up or down)......very clever and practical.

Terrific reception in both AM and FM.

Very ergonomic. Buttons dont interfere with your fingers when you grab the radio. Large display.

Good sound.

Lightweight (9.8 ounces or 277 grams with heavy duty batteries).

Sleep timer. Useful to save batteries when using "noice therapy" to fall asleep.

CONS:

No auxiliary input.

Nice but not for environments near AM transmitters

I agree with almost all the other reviews--this is mostly a really nice radio for the money, but it has a problem with the local AM transmitter a few miles away from me. That station severely bleeds into the shortwave bands at many different frequencies. Interestingly enough AM broadcast band listening works very well with no such problems (no problems on FM either).

Grundig G8

Great little radio for it's size and cost. Pulls in semi-locals and minimal - if any - splatter on adjacent channels even from the stations that are a little over one mile away. I can't wait to travel with it.

Nice small but useful radio

I am replacing my older Grundig short wave with this one. I use it only for emergency, like power outage.

My old one died on me even though I didn't use it much or abuse it. Hope this one last longer.

Shortwave quit working in first 48 hours!

(2 out of 5) by G. Smith on Sep 7, 2009
Yes, it's a great little radio like people are saying...so I'm not going to repeat its many virtues.

HOWEVER, on mine that I just received from Amazon, the SW worked the first day but now the Shortwave Band has just STOPPED working! Just static! For no apparent reason whatsoever!!!

I got a Return Authorization from Amazon and have to return it tomorrow.

I'll tell you, they sure don't make things like they used to....come on Grundig...really!
