Defective Monitor Out of the Box
The PC arrived with a short to the monitor. The screen went white during the setup and would not come back on a reboot. After a while I found if moved it to just the right spot it would come on, otherwise...white screen. I asked for a refund becaus if this one had a bad connection on day one, what would another one be like in a few months? I have heard monitors were the weak point but bought because of all the positive reviews. Maybe I was unlucky. Score on for the negatives.

Flimsy Screen. Worse Service
My Acer LCD panel broke while I had it as carry on luggage. It never left my sight and the case was pristine. Acer wanted to charge me $199 to repair it. They said it could have been the air pressure or turbulence on the plane, and they were not responsible for "acts of god." I pointed out that the 8.9" screens were being discontinued and if their fragility was a reason. I was told that the new screens were an "improvement, " and again, Acer would not take responsibility for this flimsy screen. The rep said there was nothing he could do for me.

Everything worked great for a month until it crashed
Don't buy this notebook. It worked great for a month until it crashed. After contacting customer service I learned that whoever originally installed windows failed to create an e-partition to allow the operating system to be reset. Acer Customer service then sent me recovery cds to try and fix the problem only this computer doesn't come with a cd-rom drive. After ordering a cd-rom drive I found out the cds they sent me were the incorrect cds. I talked to customer service again and they told me it was unfortunate that I was having these problems, but there was nothing they could do. If you buy this computer know that if anything ever goes wrong, you are stuck with it even when under warranty.

Don't BUY...................
I've had this since January, 2009. I loved it until this past week when the screen/display started jiggling and there appeared horizontal and vertical moving lines all over the place and 1/3 of my screen is gone.
I have been through H__ trying to get help and they say my computer is out of warranty. I bought it 6 months ago!!!
DO NOT BUY THIS COMPUTER. IT LOOKS CUTE, BUT IT'LL BITE YA LATER.

Six stars!
Here's why I bought this little gem: I'm a writer/editor/publisher, and my office machine is an HP 17-inch laptop with all the bells and whistles.
But sometimes I get cabin fever and like to drive out to a scenic spot to work outdoors in fresh air and sunshine. An over 9-pound laptop hooked up to four USBs like a patient on life support is just too klutzy for that. I also travel on business occasionally.
I don't miss the lack of a CD drive. In just a few minutes, I transferred my data files using mostly a large-capacity thumb drive. If I need to load program files from a CD, I have an external CD drive.
Pros:
1. Light as a feather.
2. Surprisingly fast.
3. Beautiful, bright, high-res display. Easy on my "old guy" eyes. And if needed, I can output the VGA to my 22-inch flat-panel monitor at the office, if desired.
4. I too lucked out with the longer-lasting battery. This puppy goes all day without a sweat.
5. I'm still amazed that for Amazon's low price, I can basically clone off everything I need from my larger machine and travel anywhere by air, car, rail, or horseback and still get work done (though I really have to focus while on that darn horse)!
6. Both wireless and Ethernet connections work like a charm.
Cons:
1. Yup. Case collects dust and fingerprints better than a team of CSIs. But it cleans off easy enough.
2. Maybe it was just my unit, but I had a dickens of a time getting the battery to snap into place, even with the little slides pulled aside as instructed.
3. Not really a con, but some here have belly-ached about the small keyboard and tricky touchpad. I already had a great Logitech cordless mouse/keyboard combo, so I just ordered an extra receiver, slipped it into an empty USB slot, and was all set. I have a large-enough rolling laptop case (for the big laptop), that I can slide the Acer netbook, mouse, and keyboard inside any time I need to travel.
My first computer was a Commodore VIC-20, back in 1982 or so. I shake my head now when I look at this little Acer and realize the power and capacity crammed into such a small space.
Since Amazon goes only to five stars, I give this one six!
