basically a good phone

(4 out of 5) by anonymous on May 3, 2009
Nice phone, good sound, uses AAA batteries
I don't think as user friendly as the unidens. The menus are less intuitive for me at least. Accessing messages and remote use of the answering machine was much more straight forward with the uniden. No lcd on the answering machine. I especially liked the uniden 1580 series but since it didn't have headphone or belt clip capability it didn't work out.
The panasonic 6442 has both of those but lacks speed dials, almost a deal breaker, not sure just yet. The rep told me none of the current models have speed dial. Why eliminate speed dial?
The dect frequency may be a step forward as far as security and interference are concerned but in my opinion the features and quality are a step back from the last generation phones.
As expensive as this phone is I expected great and got just okay. Still looking for the perfect phone...

Satisfied customer

What can I say, it does its job, and it does it well. Crisp sound, light handsets, easy-to-use answering machine.

The only downside to it is that changing the settings on the device is not very easy to do. Keep the manual handy.

Panasonic phone

(5 out of 5) by Alan Moylan on Jul 15, 2009 (Miami, FL USA)
I love this phone. It has all the features that I want, which include speakerphone functions on the base station and the handsets, caller-id, and multiple portable handsets. It takes up a minimum of space on my desk, and is expandable as a system beyond the 2 handsets, each with their own charging stations, that came with it. I recommend this product. I also recommend Amazon. I have purchased several items in addition to a number of books from Amazon, and the service has always been excellent.

Beautiful solution to too few extension phones

(5 out of 5) by Jean W. Reeve on Sep 3, 2009
I wish I had known this product existed from the moment it was invented. In my small condo, I have only two phone jacks and I do not own a cell phone. It is very painful for me, with arthritis in knees, to get from my couch to my bedroom phone before the answering machine kicks in after three rings. Being able to have an extension right next to my usual reclining position is heaven. Also, previous purchases have taught me to trust the Panasonic name. My sole gripe is, as always, that there are way too many features and way too many pages in the manual. There should be a Quick Setup page as one sees in DVRs. It was too hard to find out how to replay a message and then delete it.

I had another panasonic before with Talking Caller ID and it died down after couple of years and i was looking for the same or similar phone. This was it.. Great phone.. good battery life.. Good voice quality, easy to use and very sleek too.. all in all good phone for the price.
