works w/ Mac
My Superdrive died so needed an easy replacement - took a risk because there's no indication that it works w/ Mac, but recognized it just fine. Just wanted to post because I couldn't find any info online about compatibility.

LaCie burner -- confusion in marketing this device
The web info for this item needs to be cleared up by all concerned, particularly LaCie. There appear to be two versions of this burner, one for PC and one for PC or Mac. Both versions have the same model number - they both are a d2 model, and the PC version has the product code 301483U, with 301484U for both operating systems. I had to return this one to Amazon and repurchase from the Apple Store to get one for Mac. The burner works fine, but Mac users should be sure which version of this model they are getting. My low rating is not about the device itself, but about the confusion in marketing. At the very least, the PC model no. should be d2p and the Mac model d2m, or something else which would make the versions more distinguishable. The Amazon product description did say that the device worked with PC, but a customer review claimed it also worked fine with Mac.

Doesn't Work with Macbook Pro - Communication error
Tried everything but the last 1/4" of the disk is un-burned. The firewire version is much better - plus it contains toast software for mac dvd writing.

Excellent DVD Burner
I have been using this product for several weeks and have been very pleased with its performance. I had nothing but trouble with my internal dvd burner, but so far the LaCie has been dependable and easy to use. I have not yet tried the Lightscribe feature.
Replaced the SuperDrive on my iMac
The SuperDrive died on my iMac and Apple wanted $$$ to replace it. I brought this external drive and it works great and is faster than the original SuperDrive. In fact, when my hard disk crashed I was able to boot of this external drive and restore my system. If I had to do it again, I might not go with the Lightscribe feature because I don't use it as much as I thought I would.
