Quite the monitor

(5 out of 5) by Andy Winn on Mar 2, 2009 (Marshall, MN USA)
Wow! This is an excellent monitor overall, let alone for the price. Acer appears to have set a new standard.

Great picture, settings can be adjusted easily (I prefer cool), plug and play.

I recommend this monitor and I am glad I got the 23" size, even if I back up from the desk to view it. Works great!

Maybe the stand could have been bulked up but it is adequate.

Awesome Screen

(5 out of 5) by Kelly Haren on Jun 3, 2009 (Covington, WA USA)
Unbelievable what $189 gets you these days. Just get it, you'll love it. Comes with all cables including the HDMI. I just plugged it in and started playing - Vista had no issues.

Whined, then Lined, then Died in 5 months

(1 out of 5) by Cat Doc on Sep 21, 2009 (Wisconsin, USA)
Out of the box, this monitor has a noticeable high pitched whine (20,000hz, the kind they drive kids away from mall entrances with). It wears you down after a day of writing in a quiet room.

Movie/Games: Very noticeable flicker at a sitting distance. Unacceptable monitor for games or movie watching.

Three months later, (at the tender age of 5 months post-manufacture) bright vertical lines shot up the right hand side. Dozens of them. Lived with that irritation for another month, and now, the backlight has given out. I get half a second of desktop, then black. I am out of luck with warranty, it was Open Box (ie: caveat emptor, take your chances) at another site (think "fresh chicken embryo").

I am NOW happily back to using my former monitor, a Samsung Syncmaster 220WM, with nice contrast, no flicker, and most importantly, it WORKS, and silently to boot.

Avoid the Acer 233H monitor, and read up on other Acer monitors before you too have a giant, flat, doorstop.

Good monitor at a good price

(5 out of 5) by Curt Mader on Jun 18, 2009 (Madison, WI)
This monitor works well on my PC. The picture quality is good and there are no dead pixels. Also, for a monitor that you use on a desktop this is probably about as big as you want to get. You'd have to move further away from the monitor if you got something much bigger than this...

poor service

(1 out of 5) by VMAX on Sep 15, 2009 (FLORIDA)
T.H.I.M.C!
THIS HAS BEEN TOTAL NIGHTMARE. I started to have problems w/ my monitor about 2 months ago. There were vertical lines on the screen. I called and tried the tests that the service Tec told me. They did not work. I would like you to know that I know a little about PCs, I've built 3 so far. Anyway I emailed them and was told that I had a 3 year warranty and I needed to register it. I did so and requested info to send it out for repair. After about 10 emails telling me that I was NOT registered I finally found there was a different place to register. It was Not very clear that I needed to register in two different places. I finally got the shipping address and sent it to Temple TX. I received it back 8 days later, there was no return address, the box was different and no info inside ether. I call again and was told they never received it. I confirmed the address and sent again and requested a tracking number this time. After 11 day's I called again to check on it and was told AGAIN that they had not received it. I explained that I had a tracking number and it was signed for but this person kept telling me they did not receive it. I asked for the number to the office in Texas and was told there was no number. I then went on line and found the number; I then called and faxed you there. I finally received a call and was told AGAIN that they did not know where my monitor was. So far I'm out almost $60 in shipping and don't have a monitor! Today (9/11/09) I received a call telling me that my monitor was FOUND! . Finally I get a call telling me it was damaged and not covered under warranty. it would cost more to repair than to get a new one and I know other than having the line on the screen there was nothing wrong with it, I'm even using the old monitor with no prob's. Also I don't feel that I should have to pay to ship something that is under warranty I told them to stick it in an uncomfortable place. I'm out the shipping and now a monitor. I'll never buy Acer again!!
