Best Laptop for The Money

(5 out of 5) by R. Tishkevich on Mar 20, 2009 (Trenton, NJ)
I narrowed down my buying choice to HP and Acer because both of them sell 15 inch screens [relatively light weight laptops] that have a numeric keypad built in. I can't speak for anyone else, but I do a lot of number crunching, so the numeric keypad was important to me.

Before I purchased the product, I went to a local store to check out laptops in my price range. I tried my best to avoid looking at the brand and concentrated on going for the laptops that looked and felt best for my needs. The two laptops that drew my attention were HP and Acer. Isn't that interesting?

There were 4 reasons that I chose the Acer over the HP:

1. I read numerous customer reviews and almost everyone made lots of positive comments about their Acer laptops.
2. The keyboard on the Acer feels ergonomic and responsive. The HP has a slick, slippery keyboard.
3. Price! For the money, I don't think you can buy a better product.
4. I have an Acer desktop that's been running flawlessly 24/7 for the past 2 years and that engenders confidence in the brand.

The screen image is sharp, bright, and clear. It also has 3 mb of memory, so Windows and all of my applications run briskly. I rate it high in terms of performance.

It feels light which is important when traveling. However, that is very subjective because everyone has a different opinion in terms of what is light, comfortable, and/or too heavy.

So far I'm extremely pleased with this laptop. In fact, I think it's an outstanding buy at any price, but even better versus the cost of a similar HP. The HP I checked out was also an excellent machine, however, I didn't like the keyboard and the price was significantly higher than the Acer. If price doesn't matter, and if you like the feel of their keyboard, I think the HP is also a smart choice.

The only complaint I have is the fact that the Acer exterior is a magnet for fingerprints. Obviously that has nothing to do with functionality, so I don't consider it a significant complaint, and I clean the laptop with a cloth once a week.

Buy my computer 6 months ago, I have had problems with the hard disk, take her to radio shack 1 month ago and still they do not give me response, alone that the piece has not come.

Buy 2 computers in December of the past year and both have had the same problem and the same response of the guarantor, I never recommend to buy a Acer computer.

My wife and I have now purchased two Acer laptops. We research and shop extensively before making a pricey technology purchase. The Acer 5735 we recently purchased is great. We got the most for our money and it performs very well.
