DVD writer
Worked right out of the box with no glitches. didn't even need the Nreo software included
Another Decent HP Writer, and a Great Value!
Installed this as soon as it arrived in the Windows Home Server I was putting together. Worked immediately and flawlessly -- very cool in WHS box, since it is in nice, central location... Keep blank CDs & DVDs nearby; pop one in as needed; use remote desktop to connect to WHS from any computer (even a Mac! see 'Windows Home Server Unleashed' for details!); start disk burn. No need to linger, disconnect from WHS and go about business. Completed disk ejects when done. Bundled Nero software installed without a hitch and works fine on WHS.
Now anyone in the house can burn DVDs with a single writer purchase. Never disappointed with HP writers, this one is no exception. Another reviewer noted that the Nero software is not necessary, but this is only true if you are just burning files, etc., where operating system support for the drive is sufficient. In later Windows versions, for instance, just drag files to the drive, and tell it to write the files. However, to burn ISO images, such as to create bootable CDs & DVDs, or to make any disk from an ISO image, Nero (or suchlike) is required. Otherwise you'll just have a disk with a copy of the ISO image on it. Nero, Roxio, etc... make this a snap.
