Altec Lansing InMotion Max
This is a nice looking, nice sounding speaker system that charges your ipod/phone. I had to return the first one I purchased, it simply stopped working one day, mid-song. The second one hasn't crashed on me yet (I've had it for a month) but sometimes, the down volume control turns the sound up, which can be frustrating. It's also kind of touchy---the on/off switch sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Just a quirky, glitchy item. If it weren't for the features it offers and the sound quality, I'd call it a lemon.

Perfect!!
Great kitchen radio. Sleek design really works. Sound quality is fine. If you are looking for that "Bose quality sound", go buy a bose. This is a great buy.

Altec Lansing a complete bust
I did a lot of research, but in the end went with a recommendation from a friend who had heard good things about this brand. I had it for 1 month and liked it initially, but then it stopped working. It would not take a charge, the speakers would pop, it might work for one or two songs, then mess up again. I sent it back and exchanged it for another of the same model and in 1 week that model was doing the same thing. I ended up returning it and getting a Kicker I-kick and have been extremely impressed. Much better sound with better bass and more volume. Only problem is it does not have a rechargable battery.

Great then gone
After much research, I went for this model. Turns out that the size, functionality, and sound were just what I was looking for (Note - the sound really is impressive for its size). The unit was also quite solid. I couldn't be more happy....at first.
Unfortunately, on the second day, the unit wouldn't power up then about an hour later it powered up, but there was no sound. Sent it back for exchange and received my second unit. I fully charged it again, just as the directions stated, and immediately found that the unit would only work plugged in....even though the battery indicator said it was fully charged. As soon as I'd unplug it, the unit would die.
Altec, not sure what's going on with the internals of this model, but you could have had a knock out iPod player here. If you were one of the lucky ones that has one of these units with no issues, I know how pleased you must be. My next replacement was not this unit and was not Altec Lansing.
Lastly, Amazon was fantastic through this entire process.

At least it sounds good
I've had this unit for two-three months now, and I can't complain about the speaker, as it produces very good sound from your flavor of iPod. I'm using the inMotion on a small kiddie table in a large open-floor plan space, and I can easily hear the music clearly throughout the downstairs floor.
The bad news is that this model is marred by its flimsy quality, and although some reviewers feel these features are not important, they count for something in my household because I use the speaker all day at home. For example, the included iPod adapters are craptacular. Not only were they unlabeled for all the supported iPods, the one for my iPod actually caused it NOT to work at all in docked mode. I took the adapter off the dock and resat the iPod on, and glorious music came on. I took the adapter and the rest and put them in recycling. Furthermore, the button controls on top are moody as hell. Sometimes they respond; sometimes they don't. Sometimes I have to press the power button several times to turn the speaker on. The volume controls are oversensitive: I touch the minus, and the music drops to inaudible levels. Seriously, folks, Altec Lansing can do better than that for $200.
If I had to recommend this to a friend, I would struggle to. I'd try to convince that friend to spend more to get something better control-wise. If my friend couldn't afford a better speaker, I'd tell her to go with this one, but it's not a very enthusiastic recommendation.
