Semi-functional but simple
As many of the other reviews have mentioned, it works well when it works.
1080p is pure fantasy though. I haven't found any file format that this little hot brick (it is literally hot at all times no matter if it is on or off) that this can handle 1080p yet and I do not expect that I will. Think 720 or less.
Additionally, the newest firmware as of this comment still doesn't support a variety of formats including completely common ones like xvid and h264.
Even better is that there seems to be no place you can get viable support.
I expect that this item will be in a box collecting dust in a couple of months.

complete trash, unusable
3/4th of my avi files don't even work and some of them somehow do, TV doesn't recognize when plugged in via HDMI, files are IMPOSSIBLE to navigate through, instead of a list of file names you can navigate through with ease, you have to go over each file one by one until you know what file it is, this is just trash. maybe in a few years the technology will be better, don't waste your money.

Poor Design, Remote Control NEVER Work
Save your money. Don't ever think of buying this product. The machine does not have any button. All you can play the machine is to use the remote control. What happens if your remote control doesn't work or response. This is my case. No matter how many times or how hard I press it, it doesn't work. Check manual, follow instruction tion, it still doesn't work. $[...] bucks for a piece of J U N K. Already pass the return period (I didn't use it earlier because I just recently moved and had no time to play it). Wish I could give it ZERO star. Very BAD product.

Very Frustrating Experience
I downloaded several videos from my pc to my external hard drive and tried to watch them on my TV. In each case the video stopped playing in the middle of viewing. When I tried to watch the remaining of the video, it started at the beginning. The fast forward doesn't work either. When I tried to use fast forward to continue viewing at the point it had cut off, it ended up showing at a different point. It was a very frustrating experience. I have tried it with different videos. The experience is the same. It is very frustrating. It is a waste of time and money.

Works for an hour then quits
Works for an hour then quits. Called for an RMA and was sent another remote control instead of a replacement WDTV. Go figure...
