Works even with HDD that requires power

(5 out of 5) by Striders on Mar 31, 2009 (California)
Before purchasing this, I have a Logitech 4-port USB hub. This USB hub has an optional power port to connect an external power supply for power hungry devices, but that power supply cost extra.

When I plug TWO external USB hard drive (HDD) (Western Digital and Seagate), both HDD didn't show up in my MacBook Pro because, Leopard complaint that there is not enough "...[electric] current" to power both drive.

With the Griffin SmartShare, it worked flawlessly WITHOUT requiring an external power supply.

Good design, good quality

(5 out of 5) by C. L. Smith on Oct 1, 2009 (Maryland)
I was impressed.
Favorably impressed.
This thing fits right in wherever you want to plug it in.
And the leads that run out of it then swing around anywhere you want them to.
At first glance, I thought somebody made a mistake.
Because the devils pitchforks were on the wrong side of the plugs.
But then in a minute I noticed that the Griffin name goes up, so you won't forget who made this good little cable.

Great USB "hub" for the MacBook Air

(5 out of 5) by Carl G. Wilson on Apr 16, 2009
This little device does what it should with minimal fuss. It a small two port USB hub that lets me use two devices on the single available USB port on the Air. It is flexible and fits easily in my case. An excellent product!

when it was good it was very good when it was bad it was VERY BAD

Loved this while it lasted.
In less than 3 months one USB connector then the other
JUST DIED!!!!

Maybe I'm the only one...I'm going to see if I can get my money back...
don't know if I'd trust Griffin again

addendum:
Called Griffin (the manufacturer)
and despite my annoyed attitude
(most embarrassed now)
received kind and courteous service
(annoyed attitude mostly due to anticipating nasty response often
received from customer service...happy surprise humans still exist)
and the promise of a replacement.

Will try to update on whether the replacement lasts
longer than the 2 months and change its predecessor did....

Perfect for MacBook Air

(5 out of 5) by J. Wilson on May 18, 2009 (Utah)
This worked great on my MacBook Air with a 500GB Western Digital 2.5" external hard drive which is powered off of the USB, and my Sony HD camcorder. I was able to backup 16GB of data off of the camcorder over to the 500GB drive without any problems or power supplies.
