Grrreat Protection/Performance

(5 out of 5) by Patrick J. Burke on Jun 30, 2009
This is by far the best fitting, easiest and most complete protection I have seen for my iphone. Some have complained about the morea patterns (oil slick) from the case and iphone screen interface and I left my iphone screen protector on and have not had the effect. Durable, user friendly and a great product. I like the belt clip, and the fact is has a "stay open" position for ease of placement and removal, then you disengage the stay open and it fits securely. I like the feel and size as it fits my larger hands well. Great Product!

Amazing, and totally worth it

I have purchased 2 of these and would not consider changing for anything else. Sure it is a little bulky, but for a multi hundred dollar phone - why not protect it.

Like a Hummer for your phone

Increases the overall dimensions of the phone to 4 7/8" x 2 3/16" x 3/4"

Overall I think it is terrific. If you work in a dusty or damp enviroment, are prone to dropping your phone, or just want something more durable for an excursion, this is a great choice.

PROS: It has attached silicone flaps over every port that fit snugly in place; fabric over earpiece and speakers; clear protective "glass" over camera lense, apple logo porthole, and screen. The hard plastic case fits perfectly on the phone and the silcone cover's tabs interlock with the plastic to stay securely in place (even with rough handling). Silicone is good for grip but not super soft. I does not attract lint. Moves in and out of pocket easily. Deep bezel on front cover allows you to put your phone face down and not worry about the screen. The belt clip is terrific and very secure with screen facing in (it is not secure at all if you need to phone to face out).

CONS: The ports for ear phones and charger are deep and defined by hard plastic. The charger port is exactly the size and shape of the rounded apple cable. My squarish car adapter does not fit. Removing and replacing the case is an involved process, so I use the aux/headphone cable for audio in the car and attach the other only when I need to charge it (I have a secondary case for the days when I need to really plug it into the car CaseCrown iPhone 3G Touch Through Crystal Case - Black). The touch-through screen adheres the phone screen inconsistently and creates an oil slick appearance, like vinyl laid on glass. This is unavoidable despite otterbox's suggestion to rub hand or cheek over the phone's screen to add body oil and resist sticking. The problem is really only noticeable when the screen is off...the slight distraction when the screen is on is easily overlooked when you consider the great protection. If you find the screen thing really bugs you, you can pop theirs out (attached by dots of glue) and replace it with a regular screen protector. Just less protection from dust and moisture.

Good protection

The Otter Box for my IPhone 3G protects it well. The only problem is it forms an air bubble between the screen and the protector. I have tried to clean it completely then place it back inside the case the bubble forms again in about an hour. Even with the bubble I would not go without the Otter Box or my phone would be destroyed.

Rugged is right

It does what is says. It is the best protection for your iphone out there. In order for it to do this it does add bulk so there is a little bit of a trade off. I would have given it five stars if it were not for the watermark issue. The baby powder trick works fine but this is something the maker should have been able to improve on by now.
