Don't count on the 1-year guarantee

(5 out of 5) by B. Thill on Feb 1, 2009 (Orange, California)
I was very happy with this product originally, and my review was very positive, but I feel the need to change it. Several months after I purchased these, one of the earbuds stopped working, so I sent an email to JLab Audio asking if I qualified for a refund or replacement since a slip of paper in the original packaging guarantees their functioning for a year. I got a very quick response from customer service saying that I did indeed qualify for a replacement, and that I need only provide details about the purchase and an address so that a replacement pair could be sent. Unfortunately, after sending this information, I never heard back, nor did I receive replacement earbuds. Over the months, I sent e-mails trying to get in contact with customer service again, but got absolutely no response.

It has now been over 4 months, and I still have no replacement after being promised one. Don't count on the 1-year guarantee, and be aware that the earbuds might just quit on you.

What a disappointment!

(1 out of 5) by Dianne Provenzano on Apr 23, 2009
I was looking for some earbuds to replace the ones that came with the Ipod which kept breaking and didn't quite fit snugly in my ears. I liked the design of the JBuds and the reviews gave it pretty decent marks for the price. I've had them for a week now and I noticed that they seemed to sound a little thin. I listen to my Ipod via my car stereo during my commute and the quality is good. When I park the car and swap out the car stereo output and plug in these JBuds to the Ipod, the audio was tinny. I even turned on the "bass booster" setting on the Ipod with very little improvement. Tonight when I got home I decided to confirm my suspicion by swapping back and forth between the JBuds and the Apple earbuds that originally came with my Ipod........WOW....it was like night and day! The Apple earbuds were AMAZING by comparison. The JBuds were like listening to music on an AM radio station. What a total bust. The only thing that might improve the sound would be experimenting with the different earpieces but I don't see how even that can produce the massive improvement these would need to come close to the Apple earbuds. I just assumed that the JBuds would be at least on par with the Apple earbuds if not a LOT better....but boy was I wrong. I didn't even save the packaging or paperwork so I can't return them. I'm now switching back to my old worn out buds rather than listen to the thin, bassless audio I get from this product. I'm basically left with a worthless set of earbuds and $30 poorer. I'm not sure what those reviewers who gave this 4 and 5 stars were hearing, but I heard nothing but bad audio.

Good sound with design issues... while it lasted

(2 out of 5) by Lanlan Jin on Mar 1, 2009
I brought this pair of earbuds not 2 weeks ago, after reading numerous reviews on Amazon. My initial choices were between Jlab, Sennheiser, and Vmoda. A lot of review gave Jlab J2 good ratings on sound and design, which was why I went ahead and brought these (the most expensive earbuds I have ever purchased) thinking that at last I would have good music with me to go.

The colors of the ear pieces were the first disappointment when I took these out of the package (fast shipping from amazon, good job to them). The picture of the "Black/electric blue" seems to be heavily photoshopped to enhance the color of the blue parts of the earbud-- the blue was definitely not the neon-ish shade seen in the picture, but a darker and less vibrant blue. The material that the earpiece was made of is rather flimsy though pretty comfortable (I used the smallest ear piece) up to a certain point.

I followed the instructions for breaking-in the earbuds by playing music at medium level on my iPod for approx. 25-30 hours straight. The sound was initially muddy as most people have complained, and the vocals were very "muffled" sounding which was quite bothersome. However, those problems went away almost completely after the break-in period, providing very detailed and quite accurate sounds.

Just when I thought I could finally enjoy my music with a solid pair of earbuds, these broke. Nothing physically has been done to damage them, but the right ear just gradually went out-- it started going in and out, and now completely, all within a day (I have tested these on numerous sound generating devices, and confirmed that it's not just my iPod). I had just brought these a little more than a week! This makes me question how good/worth the money this product really is: I had put my trust into the newer JLab company thinking that these new innovators might bring more quality earbuds to the market, but I am really quite disappointed.

Words of advice: Be sure to check these out yourself before you buy these! The material used to make these does seem pretty good, but might be issues with design such as the ear pieces (which, by the way, are not completely noise canceling until you have stuck them really tightly into your ear), sound (for some), and quality (maybe I'm just really unlucky). I should mention another minor issue is that the only way to distinguish between left and right is by physically looking at the letters L and R on the side of the buds (the shape of the 2 sides are identical), which can be somewhat painstaking at a place with low light.

Good luck with your purchase, and make sure to look at Sennheiser and others, since this pair may cause you disappointment.

Better out there

(2 out of 5) by D. Wong on Dec 25, 2008
The best thing about these are the looks. For the price there are better out there. The sound quality is ok. The cord creates noise that you can hear through the ear buds so its not good for use in the gym when jogging, not as bad as others out there but its noticeable. The comfort was not as good as I had hope. I have small ears and the smallest size was still a little uncomfortable for me. They also don't seem to stay in the ears as well as I like. They come out of my ear every now and then. My old ear buds never did that. I have also emailed their customer support and from the response its obvious they didn't read my email and just sent a standard reply so I tried another email address and did not receive a response from them. So I took a star off for customer service. Better than your standard Apple white ear buds but no reason to get these over other similar priced ear buds unless you like the colors.

Very disappointing

(2 out of 5) by W. Stewart on Dec 17, 2008 (Long Island, New York, USA)
I pre-ordered these before they came out and had any reviews on them. I was EXTREMELY disappointed in them when they finally came. They sound is very muffled & muddy, the brights are not there at all. I've switched back to my cheap-o JVC Marshmallow buds which lack a little in the Bass department, but have excellent sound overall. I would not recommend these to anyone.
