Great budget MP3 CD player headunit!
I purchased this unit to replace a Kenwood KDC-MP425 which served me well, but ultimately stopped ejecting CD's. Anyway while this one doesn't have the flashy graphics of the Kenwood unit it certainly outperforms it in function.
This unit let's you fast forward and rewind through MP3 CD's quickly. ID3 tags are read and the Aux input will be useful for when my friends with Ipods. Sound quality is very good, however I did not realize until installing that this unit only has one set of RCA outputs if you're going to hook it up to a four channel amp. The remote is a nice little bonus, as I had to buy my last one separately.
It was this or a unit with GPS built in for $200 more. I'm glad I went with this one and held onto my money during these tough economic times.

Best entry level mp3/radio receiver
Over the past 2 years, I've had the misfortune to have had my car radio stolen out of my Saturn 4 times. Each time, the cretins have broken a window to get in (even though after the first time I started leaving the door unlocked) so all I could afford was the entry level receivers. Each time I put in a different brand and model, so out of the the four most popular entry level car radios that also can play MP3s, this one is the best. None of them have controls that are completely intuitive, make sure you keep the instruction manual if you ever want to change set your clock! But this is easy to install, I hooked it up to a small amp and powered subwoofer (get adujstable power if you do this so you don't rattle your windows like some punk kid) and replaced the cheap Delco GM speakers the Saturn came with, and the resulting sound is excellent. I find the remote control pretty useless, but you're not going to get a better audio bang for your buck than this model.

Don't need frivolous features? Get it.
My guess is that this radio is more than suitable for 90% of the public in the way they use their radios, or more. This is the first radio I ever installed into a vehicle, and it was a success.
On the positive side the sound is excellent, the price is cheap compared to units at big box stores, and it comes with a front AUX-IN port. I chiefly bought this radio because of the price and the aux port, as I have an MP3 player and don't listen to much radio aside to NPR.
However, I do listen to music on the radio every once and again, and the radio is missing a couple of features that are standard on stock cars these days that I've seen. Namely, it doesn't display radio broadcast track information (I suppose this isn't a big deal, as half the time the radio stations around here only use the space to advertise their own name rather than inform me of the current track's details). I would've expected a radio that can display CD ID3 tags to do this, oh well.
The faceplate seems to've come from a different model radio, as I see an unlit bluetooth icon on the upper left of the display when it has power, but there's no bluetooth functionality. Perhaps this is subtle teasing on JVC's part?
Since there's no USB port there's also no way for it to directly interface with an iPod--but I knew I wasn't getting that when I bought it, but it's something to keep in mind. If you really want such a feature look elsewhere.
Bottom line is it works, it's affordable, it sounds great, and hasn't given me any trouble yet.

Great stereo for my '69 F250!
I love this unit! I have been using it for a month now, and have had absolutely no problems with it. I have it installed in a 1969 Ford F250, which gets used like a truck. Radio reception is very good, and I get no skips when playing CD's. The directions on installation were clear, and I got it wired up with no trouble.
Installed it using a METRA Ltd 99-9222 Radio Install Kit for a Volvo.[...]
I really like the fact that the faceplate is removable. My truck is parked behind my house, so the removable faceplate is a good theft deterrent.
I haven't used the remote control yet, so I can't really comment on that. But if you're looking for a great stereo at a great price, this is the one!
